India-US Bond Unshaken: Trump Says He’ll ‘Always Be Friends’ With Modi

Key Points

Trump stated talks with India and other nations are “going great,” but voiced strong disapproval of the European Union’s $3.5 billion fine on Google, calling it discriminatory and vowing to challenge it.

His remarks follow a controversial post on Truth Social where he claimed the US had “lost India and Russia to deepest, darkest China.”

Washington, Sep 6: US President Donald Trump described the India-US partnership as a “very special relationship,” emphasizing his enduring friendship with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and assuring that there is “nothing to worry about.”

Despite expressing dissatisfaction with Modi’s recent decisions—particularly India’s continued oil imports from Russia—Trump emphasized that the India-US relationship remains “very special” and that “there is nothing to worry about.”

Responding to ANI’s question on resetting ties with India, Trump said, “I always will… We just have moments on occasion.”

On trade negotiations, Trump stated talks with India and other nations are “going great,” but voiced strong disapproval of the European Union’s $3.5 billion fine on Google, calling it discriminatory and vowing to challenge it.

His remarks follow a controversial post on Truth Social where he claimed the US had “lost India and Russia to deepest, darkest China.” He later softened that stance, saying, “I don’t think we have,” while reiterating his disappointment over India’s energy ties with Moscow and referencing the 50% tariff imposed on Indian goods.

India’s Ministry of External Affairs responded diplomatically, reaffirming the strategic importance of the bilateral partnership. MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal highlighted shared democratic values and ongoing engagement on trade issues, stating, “We remain focused on the substantive agenda… based on mutual respect and shared interests.”
