Texas, July 8: The sacred Bahuda Yatra, marking Lord Jagannath and his siblings’ return to the main temple after his annual sojourn, was celebrated with deep devotion and grandeur at Raghunath Temple in Plano, Texas. Drawing thousands of Odia and non-Odia devotees from across the region, the event served as a radiant showcase of spiritual unity and cultural pride.


The highlight of the celebration was the traditional chariot pulling, where devotees came together in joyous fervor for the devotion to Lord Jagannath, Balabhadra, and Subhadra. The air rang with the sound of bhajans and kirtans, as voices and hearts lifted in reverence. The sight of the ornately decorated chariot being pulled in unison was a moving testament to the community’s energy and shared devotion.


Hari Patro, serving as the convener (abahak), led the rituals with grace and spiritual intensity. Backed by an enthusiastic team of volunteers, the entire event flowed seamlessly, reflecting months of careful planning and commitment to tradition.

Following the chariot procession, devotees were treated to mahaprasad--sacred food blessed by the deities—served in an atmosphere of joy, humility, and gratitude. The meal became more than sustenance; it became an embodiment of collective blessings.


Community leader Sanjay Dalai, representing Global Odia Parivar and OINA (Odias in North America), praised the organizers and acknowledged the ground-level effort that went into the celebration. “This Yatra was not just an event--it was a spiritual experience,” he shared. “We extend our deepest gratitude to Mr. Patro and his entire team. Their dedication continues to bring Jagannath culture to the forefront and strengthen our global Odia identity.”
