Bangladesh Horror / Another Hindu Man Lynched in Bangladesh

Key Points
Police allege links to extortion and “Samrat Bahini” group.
Incident follows Dipu Das’ mob killing in Mymensingh.
Dhaka, Dec 25: A fresh wave of concern has gripped Bangladesh after a Hindu man was lynched by a mob in Rajbari district, just days after another Hindu youth was killed in Mymensingh. The back-to-back incidents have intensified fears about mob violence and the safety of minority communities in the country.
The Incident
On December 24, 2025, Amrit Mondal, also known as Samrat, was beaten to death by locals in Pangsha Upazila of Rajbari district, located about three-and-a-half hours from Dhaka. The attack took place around 11 p.m. at the Hossaindanga Old Market area. Police stated that Mondal was accused of extortion and allegedly led a local criminal group named Samrat Bahini. One of his associates, Salim Sheikh, was captured with firearms and handed over to authorities.
Rising Tensions
This killing comes close on the heels of the brutal murder of Dipu Chandra Das, a 27-year-old Hindu man in Mymensingh, who was burnt alive by a mob over alleged blasphemy. The consecutive incidents have sparked outrage and fear among Bangladesh’s Hindu minority, raising questions about whether such violence is isolated or part of a larger pattern of intolerance.

Government Response
Bangladesh’s interim government had earlier dismissed the Mymensingh lynching as an “isolated case” and rejected India’s concerns about minority safety. However, the recurrence of mob killings has cast doubt on that claim. Civil society groups and human rights activists have urged the government to take stronger measures to curb mob justice, protect minorities, and restore public confidence.
Call for Action
The killings have underscored the urgent need for systemic reforms to address mob violence and safeguard vulnerable communities. With investigations underway, activists stress that accountability and swift justice are essential to prevent further erosion of trust in law enforcement and governance.
