According to the Nangarhar Public Health Department, at least 20 people have died and over 100 have been injured. All the injured have been admitted to medical facilities. The earthquake caused structural damage in multiple areas, with several buildings collapsing.
Reports indicate that the epicentre was located about 27 kilometres northeast of Jalalabad, and the quake occurred around 12:47 AM at a depth of 8 kilometres.

✨This latest quake follows a series of seismic events in the region. In August, Afghanistan experienced two moderate earthquakes, one on August 2 with a magnitude of 5.5, and another on August 6 measuring 4.2.
The country also witnessed a devastating 5.9 magnitude earthquake in 2022 that claimed nearly 1,000 lives and injured over 3,000, marking one of the deadliest quakes in the past decade.
