New Delhi, Nov 23: In a celestial spectacle captivating astronomers and space enthusiasts, two airplane-sized asteroids are slated for a close flyby of Earth today, November 23, as reported by NASA's Asteroid Watch dashboard on the Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL). NASA assures that these asteroids, 2023 VH6 and 2023 VC7, pose no threat to our planet.
The first, 2023 VH6, part of the Apollo group, will pass at a distance of 1.63 million miles. Discovered in 2023, this 87-foot asteroid is drawing comparisons to an airplane in size. Following closely is Asteroid 2023 VC7, also from the Apollo group, with a more distant approach at 2.53 million miles. Measuring around 75 feet, it was first observed this year. NASA's Center for NEO Studies continuously monitors these Near-Earth Objects, ensuring ongoing assessments of any potential impact risk.
