UGC NET Update / NTA Releases UGC NET 2026 Re‑Exam City Intimation Slips for English, Commerce and Sociology Papers

New Delhi, Sep 2: The National Testing Agency (NTA) has announced the release of city intimation slips for candidates set to appear in the UGC NET 2026 re‑examination. Aspirants can now access and download the details of their allotted exam centres through the official portal, ugcnet.nta.nic.in.

The re‑test will cover the English, Commerce, and Sociology papers, scheduled for September 9 and 10 at designated centres across the country.

According to the timetable, the English paper will be held on September 9 in the first shift from 9 a.m. to 12 noon, followed by the Commerce paper in the second shift from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. The Sociology paper will take place on September 10 in the first shift from 9 a.m. to 12 noon.

Candidates who had opted for any of these three subjects are eligible to sit for the re‑examination. The NTA clarified that the decision was taken after receiving multiple complaints about errors in the original question papers.

“To ensure a fair and error‑free examination,” officials said, a committee was formed to investigate, and its recommendations led to the re‑test.

The UGC NET is conducted to determine eligibility for Assistant Professorships, admission to PhD programmes, and the award of Junior Research Fellowships (JRF) in universities and colleges.

The 2026 exam, held in June across 87 subjects, faced criticism for delays in releasing the answer key. The provisional key was published only last Sunday, after which complaints about the English, Commerce, and Sociology papers surfaced.

The NTA has assured candidates that no additional fees will be charged for the re‑exam, and seat allocations will remain unaffected. Results for the other 84 subjects will be declared as scheduled.
