New Delhi, May 25: Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan held a constructive discussion with Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma on reforms in India’s education system and the effective implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP).

During the meeting, Union Minister Pradhan praised Meghalaya’s holistic education model, which integrates formal learning with sports, physical education, horticulture, and local livelihood opportunities. He described CM Sangma’s initiatives as a symbol of cultural inclusivity and comprehensive development.

The Union Education Minister particularly welcomed the emphasis on strengthening primary education through mother tongues such as Khasi and Garo, noting that this approach would improve learning outcomes and preserve cultural identity.

He highlighted the importance of combining traditional knowledge with modern subjects like Artificial Intelligence and computational thinking to meet the aspirations of India’s youth.

“Such forward-looking and inclusive efforts would contribute significantly to the vision of ‘Viksit Bharat 2047’ helping build a skilled, confident, and empowered generation,” stated Dharmendra Pradhan.

In addition, Union Minister Pradhan also met Dr. Silpi Sahoo, Chairperson of Sai International Education Group, to discuss the successful implementation of NEP.

The meeting focused on strengthening foundational education, making learning more skill-based, promoting Indian languages, and enhancing social participation in the education system. Sensitive issues such as student nutrition and menstrual hygiene in educational institutions were also discussed.

Dharmendra Pradhan emphasized that the ultimate goal is to build a robust education system rooted in Indian values while preparing students for global opportunities.
