Bhubaneswar, Aug 24: Thousands of devotees thronged prominent Shiva shrines across Odisha today as the fourth and final Monday of the holy month of Shravan drew large gatherings of Kanwariyas carrying water from various sources for Jalabhishek and offering prayers to Lord Shiva.

Long Queues At Lingaraj
At the Lingaraj Temple in Bhubaneswar, thousands of Kanwariyas stood in long queues to offer water to Lord Lingaraj. Devotees carrying water from distant places arrived at the temple as part of their religious observances and to fulfil their vows.


Temple and police authorities put up barricades to regulate the movement of devotees amid the large gathering. Kanwariyas were allowed to enter the temple in an orderly manner for Jalabhishek, while the morning rituals of Lord Lingaraj continued as scheduled.

Dhabaleswar Sees Huge Gathering
At the Dhabaleswar Temple in Athagarh, thousands of Kanwariyas from different parts of Odisha gathered to offer water to Lord Shiva on the final Monday of Shravan.


Devotees began performing Jalabhishek from the early hours after the temple rituals were completed. The shrine reverberated with chants of ‘Har Har Mahadev’ as Kanwariyas waited in queues to offer water to Baba Dhabaleswar.

Adding a devotional spectacle to the occasion, a devotee dressed as Lord Shiva arrived at the temple carrying a damaru and trident and performed a Tandava dance.

Kapilas Witnesses Heavy Rush
The famous Kapilash Temple in Dhenkanal also witnessed a massive gathering of devotees on the final Monday of Shravan.


Devotees, from children to the elderly, travelled from distant areas carrying water pots to perform Jalabhishek before Baba Chandrasekhar. Despite the distance and difficulties along the way, devotees continued their journey with the aim of reaching the shrine and offering water to Lord Shiva.

The entire Kapilas area echoed with chants of ‘Har Har Mahadev’ as devotees completed their religious observances and sought the blessings of Baba Chandrasekhar.

Gupteswar Draws Lakhs
At the famous Gupteswar Temple in southern Odisha, a large number of Kanwariyas gathered to perform Jalabhishek.


Devotees were seen standing in long queues to offer water at the shrine. In view of the large turnout, the local administration made arrangements to regulate the movement of devotees and manage the gathering.

Baral Balunkeswar Temple
Several Shiva shrines in Ganjam district also witnessed a heavy rush of Kanwariyas from early morning.

At the famous Baral Balunkeswar Temple in Khalikote, devotees began offering water from around 4 am. The temple premises remained crowded as devotees performed Jalabhishek on the final Monday of Shravan.

The final Monday marked the culmination of this year’s Shravan observances, with devotees across Odisha offering prayers and Jalabhishek at Shiva temples while seeking the blessings of Lord Shiva.
