Puri, Jul 10: The Rajasthan administration stopped a proposed Rath Yatra scheduled to be held in Sikar on Friday after the Puri district administration objected to the observance, saying it was not in accordance with the traditional Hindu calendar and the centuries-old rituals associated with Lord Jagannath.
Acting on a communication from the Puri Collector and the Deputy Chief Administrator of the Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA), Sikar District Magistrate Ashish Modi directed the district police to prevent the procession and take necessary action to ensure compliance with the order.
Puri Raises Objection Over 'Untimely' Rath Yatra
The proposed Rath Yatra was to be organised by Biswa Sanatan Dharma Seva Sansthan and Shri Khatu Shyam Mandal in Rajasthan's Sikar district.
In its communication, the Puri administration stated that the proposed celebration on July 10 was contrary to the Hindu almanack, scriptural traditions and the centuries-old customs followed at the Jagannath Temple in Puri.
Officials said organising a Rath Yatra on an unauthorised date and promoting it on social media could hurt the religious sentiments of devotees and undermine the sanctity of Jagannath culture.
Rajasthan Administration Orders Immediate Action
Following the objection from Odisha, the Sikar District Magistrate instructed the Superintendent of Police to take immediate action to stop the event.
Copies of the order were also sent to the Sub-Divisional Officer (SDO) of Dantaramgarh for monitoring and ensuring that the proposed procession did not take place.
The district administration said the decision was taken to maintain law and order and prevent any disturbance arising from religious sensitivities.
