Cricket News / Gautam Gambhir’s Childhood Coach Sanjay Bharadwaj Seeks Lord Jagannath’s Blessings In Puri

Puri, Aug 15: Cricket coach Sanjay Bharadwaj, who trained Indian cricket team head coach Gautam Gambhir, visited the Srimandir in Puri and offered prayers to Lord Jagannath on Saturday. Bharadwaj expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to seek the Lord’s blessings.

Speaking after the darshan, Bharadwaj said he felt blessed to have trained Gambhir, who is now the head coach of the Indian cricket team. He attributed Gambhir’s success and his own coaching journey to Lord Jagannath.

“I feel blessed after having darshan of Mahaprabhu. The person who is now the coach of the Indian Cricket Team, I feel blessed to have been his coach. I give the credit to Mahaprabhu. All these are His works and only my name is associated with them,” Bharadwaj said.

He also expressed hope that more talented cricketers continue to emerge through his coaching with Lord Jagannath’s blessings.

Bharadwaj was felicitated by the Odisha Net Ball Cricket Association during his visit.

A Coaching Career Spanning Decades
Bharadwaj has had a long coaching career and has trained several prominent cricketers, including Indian leg-spinner Amit Mishra, batter Nitish Rana, 2007 World Cup-winning player Joginder Sharma, batter Unmukt Chand, women cricketers Reema Malhotra and Rumeli Dhar, and IPL player Priyansh Arya.

Odisha cricketer Subhranshu Tripathy is also training under Bharadwaj. He is the founder and head coach of the Lal Bahadur Cricket Academy in Delhi and Bhopal.

Bharadwaj received the Dronacharya Award in 2019 for his contribution to cricket. He has also completed BCCI Level-3 coaching.

His coaching assignments include serving as assistant coach of India’s Under-15 World Cup team in 1996, coach of the India Under-19 World Cup team in 2004 and batting coach of the Delhi cricket team during the 2010-11 season.
