The find, made on Friday during subterranean digging for an infrastructure project aimed at improving pilgrim facilities, has captivated both spiritual devotees and archaeological experts.

As heavy machinery cleared layers of ancient soil several metres below the surface, the stone structure appeared largely intact despite centuries of burial.
