Jajpur, Jan 4: Tension ran high as two persons were killed in a gunshot attack during a broad daylight dacoity bid in a jewelry shop at Panikoili in Jajpur district on Saturday afternoon.

Five miscreants came in civil dress, entered the Panda Jewellers and threatened the shop employees to hand over ornaments and cash. As a scuffle ensued between them, the looters fired at the employees and others indiscriminately. As a result, a visitor to the shop died and an employee was severely injured.

The injured staff was rushed to the Panikoili Hospital first and later shifted to the Ashwini Hospital in Cuttack. However, he succumbed to his injuries there.

Hearing gunshots and commotion sound, locals rushed to the shop and tried to nab the miscreants. They chased and managed to catch hold of the two looters.

The loot bid in the broad daylight has disturbed the locals. "It is not understood how looters dared to commit dacoity in a jewelry shop located just 500 metre away from the police station and the SP office," asked locals.

According to the latest information, police have taken the nabbed looters into custody and interrogated them. The police have also started a manhunt to nab the other miscreants.
