Puri, Jun 26: Authorities at Swargadwar crematorium in Puri lodged a police complaint alleging that relatives of a deceased person assaulted a security guard and misbehaved with a woman employee following a dispute over delays in issuing a cremation token.

The incident took place on Thursday night, according to Swargadwar authorities.

Dispute Triggered by Token Delay
According to the complaint, family members who had arrived to perform the last rites allegedly created a commotion after objecting to a delay in the issuance of a token for cremation.

Authorities alleged that the situation escalated after the group was asked not to record videos inside the premises.

Security Guard Assaulted, Woman Employee Alleges Misconduct
Swargadwar authorities alleged that several youths assaulted a security guard, leaving him with injuries below one eye. They also allegedly tore his shirt, damaged its pocket and buttons, and physically attacked him.

The complaint further alleged that a female employee was subjected to misconduct during the incident.

Police Begin Investigation
A complaint has been filed at the Sea Beach Police Station, and police have begun an investigation into the allegations.

Officials said cremation services at Swargadwar continued without disruption following the incident.

Youth Injured in Knife Attack Near Odisha-Chhattisgarh Border

In a separate incident, a youth sustained serious injuries after being allegedly attacked with a knife near the Odisha-Chhattisgarh border in Nuapada district, police said.

The injured youth was identified as Akash Yadav, a resident of Palasabhadar village under Jonk police station limits. Following the assault, Yadav was admitted to the Nuapada District Headquarters Hospital for treatment.

Attack Reportedly Followed Altercation at Fair
According to a source, the victim was returning after visiting a fair at Temri Kali Mata Temple in neighbouring Chhattisgarh when the attack took place.

Police said the assault is suspected to have followed an altercation, although the exact circumstances are under investigation.
