Key Points

Rayagada SP Raj Prasad said 20 people have been arrested and forwarded to court in the mob violence case, which has been placed under the police's "Red Flag" category for high-priority investigation.
Rayagada, Jun 21: The Rayagada mob violence case was placed under the police's “Red Flag” category, elevating it to a high-priority investigation amid growing scrutiny over one of the state's most sensitive recent incidents.

Addressing a press conference on Sunday, Rayagada Superintendent of Police (SP) Raj Prasad said 20 people have been arrested so far and forwarded to court in connection with the case. Special teams have been formed to trace and apprehend the remaining suspects allegedly involved in the violence.

Three Cases Registered
Police registered three separate cases and launched a detailed investigation with support from the Odisha Crime Branch.

Describing the incident as “highly condemnable,” the SP said the district police acted swiftly following the violence and are receiving guidance from senior officials and the Crime Branch to ensure a comprehensive probe.

“Police responded very quickly and swiftly to the incident and have already forwarded 20 people to the court. We requested higher authorities to place the case under the Red Flag category, and the Crime Branch is providing suitable guidance to take the investigation forward,” the SP said.

He added that all individuals found responsible for the incident would face legal action.

Probe Extends To Viral Videos
Investigators are also examining the recording and circulation of videos related to the incident on social media.

The SP said filming individuals without consent and circulating such content may attract provisions under the Information Technology Act. Police are attempting to identify those who recorded, uploaded and shared the videos online.

“We are tracking who created and circulated these videos. Strict action will be taken against anyone found violating the law,” he said.

Fear Of Arrest Empties Village
Meanwhile, fear of arrest has reportedly gripped Intaliguda village, where many adult men are said to have left their homes following the police crackdown.
