A shocking case of domestic violence has emerged from Odisha’s Mahanga block, where a woman was attacked by her in-laws for giving birth to twin daughters.
Cuttack, May 24: In a disturbing incident highlighting gender discrimination, a woman in Odisha’s Pasulunda village under Mahanga block has alleged that she was brutally attacked by her in-laws after giving birth to twin daughters.
According to reports, Parbati Jena, daughter of Ajay Jena from Kanpur village, married Chandrashekhar Jena of Pasulunda four years ago in a traditional ceremony. Since her marriage, Parbati claims she faced continuous dowry harassment from her husband’s family.
A month ago, Parbati gave birth to twin baby girls. Instead of celebrating the arrival of the newborns, her in-laws allegedly expressed anger over the birth of daughters. She has accused her mother-in-law, father-in-law, and sister-in-law of threatening to kill the infants and attacking her and her husband in public.
The shocking assault, reportedly carried out in the village square, was captured on video and has since gone viral on social media. In her complaint to Mahanga police station, Parbati alleged that her in-laws demanded she kill her daughters, warning that she would otherwise be killed.

She further stated that her mother-in-law abandoned her at the hospital after delivery and later abused and assaulted her when she requested help in caring for the newborns. Her father-in-law and sister-in-law allegedly joined in the attack, leaving her injured.
Following the complaint, police have registered a case against the accused and initiated an investigation. Authorities confirmed that the matter is being treated with seriousness given the viral video evidence and the gravity of the allegations.
This incident has sparked outrage, drawing attention to the persistent issue of gender bias and violence against women in India. Despite legal protections, cases of harassment and abuse linked to the birth of girl children continue to surface, exposing deep-rooted societal prejudices.
As the investigation proceeds, activists have called for strict action against the perpetrators and stronger measures to protect women from such abuse. For Parbati and her newborn daughters, the ordeal underscores the urgent need for awareness and enforcement of laws against domestic violence and gender discrimination.
