Excise Raid / Odisha Excise Raid Seizes 2,345 Litres of Illicit Liquor in Cuttack

Cuttack, Aug 1: Odisha police and excise officials carried out two major raids in Cuttack and Boudh districts, seizing large quantities of illicit liquor and busting a gambling den.

In Cuttack district’s Athagarh Koranga village and nearby cashew forest, a joint operation was conducted under the supervision of Excise Superintendent Karuna Shankar Tiwari.

The raid involved Athagarh Excise Sub-Division, Banki Excise Station, District Mobile Unit Cuttack, Narasinghpur Excise, EI & EB Unit-I Cuttack, and Athagarh police.

Led by Sub-Divisional Officer C.H. Tirupathi, Inspector Rabinarayan Padhi, and Athagarh IIC Sumati Mohanty, the team seized 2,345 litres of country liquor and destroyed 25,200 litres of fermented jaggery wash used for brewing.

Five cases were registered against offenders, marking a significant crackdown on illegal liquor production in the region.

Meanwhile, in Boudh district, police raided a gambling den near Rajamunda pond close to Kontiapali village in Manamunda area.

Acting on a tip-off, a patrol team led by ASI Pushpanjali Mishra stormed the site. Eight gamblers were arrested, and police seized ₹8,800 in cash, playing cards, and several two-wheelers and four-wheelers used by the accused.

While some managed to flee, police successfully detained eight individuals and registered cases against them.

Authorities said both operations reflect the administration’s commitment to curbing illegal activities that threaten public safety and order.

Excise officials stressed that such raids will continue to dismantle illicit liquor networks, while police vowed to intensify surveillance against gambling dens across the state.
