Crime in Odisha / Odisha Crime Wave: Four Brutal Cases Reported Four Districts

Bhubaneswar, Aug 12: Odisha has been rocked by a spate of violent crimes across districts, with incidents reported from Sambalpur, Chilika, Kendujhar, and Koraput, leaving residents shocked and police under pressure.

In Sambalpur, a gruesome murder occurred behind Patneswari temple late at night. The victim, identified as Gopal Bansal of Tiwari Gali, was allegedly attacked by Aryan Singh and Sagar Swain following a heated argument.

Police said the accused first knocked Gopal down and then smashed his head and face with stones, killing him on the spot.

Sambalpur Town police rushed to the scene, arrested both accused, and seized the stone used in the crime. A scientific team collected evidence, while police confirmed the duo had prior criminal records.

Meanwhile, in Chilika, police arrested the prime accused in the murder of minor Om from Pipili. Om had gone fishing with relatives when armed assailants attacked them.

While others escaped, Om was assaulted and thrown into the lake. His body was recovered a day later, and police today confirmed the arrest of the main accused from Balugaon.

In Kendujhar district, a shocking domestic crime unfolded in Bankpatuli village under Ghatagaon police limits. Following a quarrel, a woman allegedly strangled her husband after attacking him with a wooden plank.

The deceased was identified as Anand Munda. His second wife, Yatri Munda, fled after the incident but was later arrested. A murder case has been registered (Case No. 418/2026), with police investigating the motive.

Adding to the grim developments, Koraput’s Jeypore reported the recovery of an unidentified elderly woman’s body floating in Jagannath Sagar. Fire services assisted in retrieving the body, while police said her identity remains unknown. The cause of death will be determined after post‑mortem examination.
