Police Action / Gajapati Police Crack ₹5 Lakh Loot in Two Hours

Paralakhemundi, Aug 2: In a remarkable display of efficiency, Gajapati police cracked a major loot case within just two hours, recovering ₹5 lakh and arresting two interstate dacoits from Andhra Pradesh.

The incident occurred when M. Surya Rao of Sailada village, Gurandi police limits, withdrew ₹5 lakh from SBI’s main branch. While returning, four miscreants distracted him and snatched away the cash-filled bag.

Acting swiftly, Model Police Station officials launched an investigation based on CCTV footage and alerted border police stations.

During naka checking, Garabandh police intercepted two accused — Petla Debdhanam and Goti Salman — recovering the entire looted amount along with the motorcycle used in the crime.

Police revealed that this gang has a history of criminal activities, with 11 cases of theft and dacoity registered against them in Balangir, Kalahandi, and Ganjam districts. Efforts are underway to nab the remaining two absconding associates.

In another breakthrough, Cuttack’s Manglabag police arrested a member of the notorious Irani gang involved in a jewellery shop loot.

The accused, identified as Muqtar Ali of Nuapada district, had posed as a customer before fleeing with gold ornaments from Bania Sahi on July 15.

Police seized part of the stolen ornaments from his possession. Investigations revealed that Ali carried out the crime with his brother, who remains absconding.

Both cases highlight the proactive measures and swift coordination of Odisha police in tackling organized crime. Authorities reiterated their commitment to ensuring public safety and bringing habitual offenders to justice.
