Bhubaneswar, Jul 28: A man allegedly bludgeoned his father to death with a stone following a domestic dispute at Chakeisiani under Mancheswar police station limits in Bhubaneswar, marking the second alleged family murder reported from the area within 24 hours.
The accused, identified as S Debaraj, allegedly killed his father, S Durjyadhan, during a late-night altercation. Police have taken the accused into custody.
Father Killed
According to a source, the incident took place after a long-standing family dispute escalated. Debaraj allegedly attacked his father with a stone, killing him on the spot.
After the alleged murder, he also threatened his mother. Other family members reportedly fled the house to save themselves as the accused chased them.
The family is originally from Ganjam district and had been living in Bhubaneswar, where they worked as labourers.
Accused Had Undergone De-addiction Treatment
Police said the accused was addicted to intoxicants and had earlier been admitted to a de-addiction centre by his family.
However, after returning from the rehabilitation centre, he allegedly committed the gruesome crime.
Police have detained Debaraj and launched an investigation to ascertain the exact sequence of events and motive behind the killing.

Second Murder In Chakeisiani Within 24 Hours
The incident comes a day after another shocking domestic murder was reported from the same police station limits.
On Monday, a man allegedly killed his 26-year-old wife, Monika Jena, at a rented house in Chakeisiani before attempting suicide by consuming poison.
According to Commissionerate Police, the accused, Deepak Kumar Jena, allegedly traced his estranged wife to her rented accommodation and attacked her while she was alone. Police said she was throttled with a towel and her wrist was later slashed.
The accused was traced and detained after police tracked his mobile phone. He was admitted to a hospital after allegedly consuming poison and will be arrested after being discharged, police said.
