New Delhi, June 6: The investigation into the tragic Malviya Nagar hotel fire that claimed 21 lives has intensified, with Delhi Police arresting another accused. The hotel’s cook, identified as Keshav Negi (65), was taken into custody after investigators alleged that his negligence triggered the massive blaze at Flourish Stay B&B.
Police confirmed that several other individuals have been detained for questioning as part of the ongoing probe. Earlier, the property’s owner, Lavkesh Bajaj, was arrested following a city-wide manhunt and was remanded to four days of police custody. During court proceedings, Bajaj’s lawyer argued that the defence had not received a copy of the FIR, to which police assured that it would be provided.
Investigators sought Bajaj’s custody to gather details about the hotel’s staff and operational records, noting that only two employees’ information had been shared so far. The defence countered that Bajaj was being targeted solely because of his ownership of the property, demanding justification for his arrest.
Police highlighted that the fire’s severity has delayed forensic examinations at the site. Meanwhile, hospitals treating survivors reported that 15 patients remain admitted, including 13 international guests. Six patients are on ventilator support but are stable and showing improvement. Nine others are being treated in ICU and general wards, with conditions reported as stable.
