Bhubaneswar, Feb 23: Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has presented a data, which shows that the state has witnessed a notable decline in overall crime rates.
Sharing the detailed statistics in the Assembly, CM Majhi said that, comparing the periods February 2023-June 2024 and July 2024-December 2025, Odisha recorded reductions across several categories of serious crimes.
“According to official data, rape cases fell by 3.5 per cent, molestation cases by 2.2 per cent, and harassment of women in public places by 26.8 per cent,” revealed CM Majhi.
“Dowry-related murders decreased by 8.3 per cent, acid
attacks on women dropped sharply by 73.3 per cent, and non-dowry torture cases
declined by 1.6 per cent. Murder cases also saw a 7.4 per cent reduction,” he
revealed further.

Presenting the recorded crime data, he said: “In 2025, Odisha registered 2,994 rape cases, 115 attempted rapes, 7,378 cases of women abduction, and 440 cases of trafficking,” adding that molestation cases stood at 7,382, while sexual harassment cases were 1,183.

“Public harassment of women accounted for 1,448 incidents, and stalking cases numbered 485. Dowry-related violence continued to be a concern, with 145 dowry deaths, 77 dowry-related suicides, and 4,361 dowry torture cases. Bride torture cases were reported at 5,419,” reveals the presented data.
“The state also recorded 1,304 murders last year. Under the Indian Penal Code, Odisha registered 73,148 cases during the year, of which 27,713 were disposed of,” CM Majhi informed the Assembly.
The Odisha Chief Minister also highlighted infrastructure gaps in policing. “Out of 706 police stations in Odisha, 623 have functional CCTV systems, but 83 stations still lack operational surveillance,” revealed CM Majhi.
“In Bhubaneswar, two police stations have non-functional
CCTV, while in Cuttack, three stations face similar issues, and one station has
yet to install CCTV. Additionally, 553 police stations lack adequate housing
facilities,” he added.
The Odisha CM assured that efforts are underway to
strengthen policing infrastructure and improve surveillance.
Odisha Electronics & Information Technology Minister Mukesh Mahaling, in a written reply, presented the data about the cyberattacks on Odisha. “Odisha has been the target of repeated cyberattacks originating from Russia, China, North Korea, Iran, and Nigeria. Hackers attempted 7,005 intrusions aimed at breaching government departments and institutional websites,” revealed Mahaling.
Praising the state’s Cyber Security Operation Centre (CSOC), Mahaling said: “Despite these persistent threats, the state’s CSOC successfully thwarted every attack. Since 2022, the centre has been safeguarding Odisha’s data centre, which hosts around 650 websites, ensuring uninterrupted protection of critical digital infrastructure.”
