Crime in Odisha / CCTV Exposes Woman’s Sweet Shop Theft in Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar, Aug 12: A series of crime incidents have come to light in the capital city, ranging from petty theft to attempted car loot and violent robbery.

In the first case, CCTV footage exposed a woman stealing cash from a sweet shop at Lingipur Traffic Square.

Arriving in a car, she purchased sweets and, while the shopkeeper was busy packing, allegedly took money from the cash box. The shopkeeper later reported that around ₹2,000 was stolen. The entire act was captured on CCTV, which is now being examined by police.

Car Loot Foiled

In another incident, miscreants attempted to loot a car near Chandaka Square. Using iron rods and pliers, they tried to break open the lock and tamper with the ignition. When the ignition failed, they abandoned the vehicle in the forest.

Police recovered the white car from Bhola jungle and launched an investigation.

According to reports, the looters dragged the car into the forest with ropes, intending to steal it. However, strict PCR patrolling and timely police response foiled the attempt. CCTV footage is being checked to identify the culprits.

Robbers Arrested

Meanwhile, a violent robbery occurred near Bhubaneswar Railway Station. Four miscreants attacked passenger Bisheshwar Bhuyan near a city hotel, snatching his mobile phone and wallet containing ₹1,000. When he resisted, they assaulted him with a bamboo stick, leaving him injured.

Following investigation, police arrested accused Paresh Pattnayak alias Rahul. Earlier, two others—Tamanna Parwin and Nirmal Kumar Mallick alias Kirtan — had already been arrested in connection with the case.

During interrogation, Rahul admitted involvement, revealing that the gang had already spent ₹600 of the stolen money. The wallet and bamboo stick used in the crime were recovered. Further investigation by Kharavel Nagar police is underway.
