New Delhi, Jun 25: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has carried out a massive coordinated operation against the rising menace of “Digital Arrest” cyber fraud across India.

Under Operation Chakra6, more than 60 special teams conducted raids at over 80 locations in 16 states, including Punjab, Gujarat, Delhi, Maharashtra, Haryana, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Assam, West Bengal, Manipur, Karnataka, and Odisha.

The raids targeted an organized criminal network linked to over 200 cases of “Digital Arrest” scams. Two suspects were arrested in Chennai and Kolkata, accused of creating fake companies, opening mule bank accounts, and laundering nearly ₹2 crore through these accounts.

CBI officials revealed that fraudsters had even set up a fake website resembling the official portal of the Supreme Court of India. Victims were tricked into believing they were under “digital arrest” through forged court orders and counterfeit documents issued in the names of law enforcement agencies.

The operation led to the seizure of crucial evidence, including forged documents, digital devices, mobile phones, and banking records. These materials are undergoing forensic examination to trace the wider network.

Investigators have also found that the scam targeted not only Indian citizens but also victims in other countries. Information is being shared with international law enforcement agencies to expand the probe.

The CBI emphasized its commitment to combating cybercrime and ensuring justice for victims. Officials stated that advanced forensic technology and technical expertise were deployed to identify key links in the network, both within India and abroad.

The investigation remains ongoing, with more arrests and revelations expected in the coming weeks.
