Hyderabad, Jul 23: A 23-year-old cab driver was arrested for allegedly raping a 37-year-old cabin crew member of a private airline after diverting her office cab to a secluded spot near Hyderabad's Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA), police said.
The incident occurred on July 20 when the woman boarded an airline-arranged cab from Shamshabad to the airport to report for duty.
Driver Diverted Cab To Secluded Spot
According to police, the accused drove away from the designated route and stopped near an under-construction site close to the airport.
The driver allegedly told the woman he was stepping out to answer nature's call before returning to the vehicle.
"He returned within two to three minutes, entered through the rear door and raped the woman inside the car," Shamshabad ACP V Sreekanth Goud said.
Survivor Escaped And Alerted Police
Police said the woman resisted the assault and managed to push the accused away before escaping from the vehicle.
She ran towards a nearby worker while shouting for help, prompting the accused to flee in the cab.
The survivor later approached the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport Police Outpost and lodged a complaint.

Accused Arrested The Next Day
Based on the complaint, police registered a case under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including charges of rape and assault.
The accused, identified as Errapogu Prashanth Kumar, a resident of Telangana's Rangareddy district, was traced and arrested on July 21.
Police said he allegedly confessed to the crime during interrogation. Following a medical examination, he was produced before a local court and remanded to judicial custody.
Police Ask Airline To Review Safety Protocols
Investigators said the cab was operated by a local transport agency hired by the airline to ferry employees.
Following the incident, police asked the airline to review its employee transportation safety protocols, particularly for women staff travelling to and from the airport.
The airline is cooperating with the investigation and providing assistance to the survivor, police said. Further investigation is underway.
