Meanwhile, Bhadrak district has witnessed a surge in theft incidents in both urban and rural areas. On Friday night, villagers in Patharadi near Charampa foiled a burglary attempt at the residence of elderly resident Arata Bhanjan Barik.
With his wife away in Bhubaneswar for medical treatment, the house was locked. A group of youths attempted to break the grill, but alert neighbours, including Arata’s brother Purnachandra, raised an alarm and managed to overpower one of the culprits. The accused was handed over to the rural police, along with the bike and sharp weapon he was carrying.
In another case, Purunabazar police arrested two thieves involved in a burglary at Mirzapur village. On January 23, valuables including two gas cylinders, an LED television, furniture, and utensils were stolen from the house of SK Nabil Qadri. Following investigation, police arrested Mirzapur resident Mairaj Saha and his associate, trolley driver SK Qadri of Helasahi. The stolen items and the trolley used in the crime were recovered.
