Baripada, Sep 15: Police foiled an alleged bank robbery attempt at the Union Bank branch in Managobindapur under Baisinga police station limits in Mayurbhanj district late Monday night, detaining seven suspects and seizing a car bearing a West Bengal registration number.
According to a source, the suspects allegedly targeted the bank between around 1:30 am and 2 am, taking advantage of the extended holiday period. They allegedly broke the bank’s grille and doors before entering the premises.
Security Alarm Alerts Authorities
The suspects were reportedly attempting to move towards the cash cabin and locker area when the bank’s central security system triggered an alarm. The alert was received at the bank’s central control room in Bengaluru, following which local authorities were immediately informed.
Acting on the information, a police team led by newly appointed Baisinga police station Inspector-In-Charge Baba Sankar Saraf reached the spot and launched a surprise raid.

On seeing the police, the suspects allegedly attempted to flee in their car without being able to loot any cash. Police chased the vehicle along the Manatri-Baisinga road and intercepted it near Baisinga Chhak.
