Balianta Lynching Case: Probe Ordered into IPS Officer for Exploitation
The complaint alleges that Soumya was illegally deployed for personal household chores by the senior official.

Key Points

The GRP Constable Soumya Swain murder case has escalated after the Crime Branch ordered an inquiry into a senior IPS officer accused of exploiting the deceased for illegal personal chores.

Bhubaneswar, Jun 7: The investigation into the tragic death of GRP Constable Soumya Ranjan Swain in Balianta has taken a dramatic turn. Following a complaint filed with the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), the CID-Crime Branch has issued an official letter ordering a probe into allegations against a senior IPS officer.

The complaint alleges that the deceased was illegally deployed for personal household chores by the senior official. To verify these claims, the ADG of Railways and Coastal Security has been directed to investigate the matter and submit a detailed report.

Allegations of Workplace Exploitation and Harassment

As the NHRC and Crime Branch simultaneously pursue the investigation, public scrutiny over the case has intensified. Previously, Soumya’s mother levelled severe allegations against ADG Dayal Gangwar.

She claimed that Soumya was forced to visit the ADG’s residence daily to perform menial tasks, such as giving body massages and managing his private gym.

The family alleged that Soumya suffered a physical hand injury from this rigorous manual labour and was under severe mental duress due to continuous workplace exploitation.

Investigation Enters Key Phase

The NHRC team recently concluded a gruelling five-day marathon interrogation, questioning more than 30 individuals connected directly or indirectly to the case, including ADG Dayal Gangwar.

Crucial evidences, including exclusive WhatsApp chats and viral audio clips, pointed toward a long-standing dispute between Soumya and his friend/associate Om.

During the interrogation, the NHRC team quizzed several key figures, including: Om, two young women, the 108 ambulance driver and the truck driver present on the day of the incident, all concerned GRP officials and suspended police personnel, Soumya’s girlfriend and the doctor who conducted the post-mortem.

The core of the investigation revolves around crucial questions: Why was Soumya summoned to the ADG's private residence? Why was he forced into personal service? What is the ADG's connection to the Satya Vihar gym?

The WhatsApp Chat, Viral Audio, and the Om Angle

Leaked WhatsApp chats reveal that tension had been brewing between Soumya and Om since last November over disputes related to the Satya Vihar Gym. Soumya had reportedly used his girlfriend to warn Om against visiting the Adaspur gym.

Following the leak of a viral audio clip confirming this rivalry, Soumya’s family has demanded a thorough examination of Om's Call Detail Records (CDR) from May 7 to uncover who he was in frequent communication with on the day of the incident.

Family Questions Crime Branch Procrastination

Despite the expanding scope of the case, Soumya’s parents have openly expressed dissatisfaction with the Crime Branch's handling of the case.

They have questioned why the agency is limiting its actions to basic detentions without invoking strict mob violence and lynching sections.

Furthermore, the family has raised a critical question: Where is Soumya’s missing mobile phone? They are demanding that the Crime Branch trace the phone and analyze its CDR to bring the absolute truth to light.
