Baleshwar, Oct 25: A family from a village under Jaleswar police station limits in Odisha’s Baleshwar district has alleged that it is yet to receive justice more than one year after a 3-year-old girl was allegedly sexually assaulted by a neighbour.

The family has also alleged that it is facing threats to withdraw the complaint, with the accused reportedly back in the village and living with his family.

According to the family, the incident took place on October 6, 2025, during Lakshmi Puja. The girl’s parents had gone to Jaleswar for some work and were delayed in returning home. The child and her brother went to a neighbour’s house to make a phone call.

The family alleged that a young man from the neighbouring household lured the girl by offering her 'Bhujia' (a snack) and took her inside, where he allegedly raped her.

After learning about the incident upon returning home, the parents lodged a written complaint at Jaleswar police station. The family claimed that although an FIR was registered, no effective action had been taken against the accused.

Speaking about the case, the victim’s mother alleged that the accused had initially fled but had since returned home. She also claimed that the family had approached senior police officials seeking his arrest, without any result.

“Our daughter was raped one year ago. We had lodged an FIR at Jaleswar Police Station. But no action was taken and the accused fled. We approached senior police officials to arrest him. However, nothing happened. Now, the accused is back home and living with his family. Our neighbours are threatening us with guns to withdraw the complaint. Why has justice not been served to my daughter?” the mother said.

The family has expressed fear over the alleged threats and is seeking action in the case.
