Debagada: A 19-year-old man allegedly killed a villager and critically injured his son in a knife attack following a minor dispute at Goudsuguda village under Barkote police station limits in Odisha’s Debagada district on Friday morning, a source said.

The deceased was identified as Gautam Sahu, while his son Tikeshwar Sahu sustained critical injuries in the attack. The accused, identified as Bijay Nayak, 19, has been detained by police for questioning.

According to the source, construction work for a mandap was underway in the village when Gautam was taking a water tanker through the area. However, cattle tied along the road obstructed the tanker’s movement. Gautam reportedly asked Bijay to move the cattle, following which an argument broke out.

Gautam sustained a stab wound to his abdomen, while Tikeshwar was injured in the back. The two were rescued in a critical condition and rushed to the Debagada District Headquarters Hospital, where doctors declared Gautam dead.
