Rairangpur, Jun 15: A 13-year-old girl in Odisha's Mayurbhanj district was allegedly gang-raped after being forcibly taken away by a group of miscreants while she was accompanying her elder sister, a source said on Monday.

The incident was reported from the jurisdiction of Rairangpur Town Police Station. According to the victim's father and elder sister, the minor had gone out with her sister when the alleged incident took place.

The family alleged that the minor was forcibly taken away by the accused persons and later abandoned near her house in an unconscious condition after the alleged sexual assault.

After being informed about the incident, police rescued the victim and shifted her to Rairangpur Hospital, where her medical examination was conducted as part of the investigation, the source added.

On Monday morning, a police team led by Additional Superintendent of Police Jadunath Jena and Rairangpur Town Police Station IIC Jyotiprakash Swain visited the alleged crime scene along with the victim's father and elder sister and launched an investigation into the matter.

The victim's family has alleged gang-rape and demanded strict action against those responsible.

The source informed that while police have begun preliminary inquiries and collected information from the family, a formal case had not been registered at the time of filing this report.
