Bhubaneswar, Jul 30: The Odisha Transport Department has raised concerns over the growing impact of ultra-fast delivery services offered by platforms like Blinkit, Zepto, BigBasket, and JioMart. These companies promise delivery within minutes of placing an order, which is increasingly putting pressure on urban traffic systems and road safety.
According to officials, the rush to meet rapid delivery timelines is leading to reckless driving behaviour among delivery personnel, contributing to traffic congestion and increasing the risk of accidents. The issue came into sharper focus following a complaint submitted to the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), prompting the Transport Department to take immediate action.
In response, the department has written to the Labour Department, urging it to initiate awareness programmes and specialized training for delivery riders employed by these platforms. The goal is to ensure that riders are educated on traffic rules, safe driving practices, and the importance of public safety.
