India set a target of 180 for the Netherlands as they finish at 179/2 in 20 overs against them at Sydney Cricket Ground in Australia.

Sydney, Oct 27: Half-centuries from star batters Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and Suryakumar Yadav guided India to a competitive 179/2 in 20 overs against the Netherlands in their Group 2, Super 12 match of the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup at Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) on Thursday.

Batting first, India was off to a shaky start as they lost opener KL Rahul for 9 off 12 balls after a medium pacer Paul van Meekeren trapped his leg before the wicket. India was 11/1 in 2.4 overs. Star batter Virat Kohli joined Rohit Sharma on the crease in the third over. The duo took India through the powerplay safely, without any further fall of a wicket. However, the Netherlands kept Indian batters subdued with their great line and length. At the end of six overs, India was at 32/1, with Kohli (6*) and Rohit (16*) at the crease.

Both batters did hit some big shots, but they struggled to connect properly and big outfields forced them to satisfy themselves with doubles. The duo brought up their 50-run stand in 41 balls, surviving many mistimed hits and catch attempts.

At the end of 10 overs, India was at a decent 67/1, with Rohit (42*) and Kohli (14*). They needed to push their inning into the next gear now.

Rohit Sharma brought up his half-century in 35 balls with a four, his 29th in the format. Kohli on the other hand still could not score a boundary. The 75-run stand between the duo was broken after Rohit was caught by Colin Ackermann at deep-midwicket on a delivery by medium pacer Fred Klassen. The skipper scored 53 off 39 balls with four boundaries and three sixes.

Suryakumar Yadav joined Kohli on the crease and the latter also broke his boundary drought with a straight four over the bowler's head. A four by Suryakumar took India to the 100-run mark in 13.2 overs.

Suryakumar kept showing his impressive range of shots, helping Men in Blue reach 114/2 in 15 overs, with Kohli (32*) and Suryakumar (17*). The 16th over was good for India as it gave them 14 runs. In the next over, Virat also hit some attractive shots to bring up his second straight fifty in the tournament in just 36 balls, which was also his 35th in the format. The 17th over gave away 16 runs.

A boundary from Suryakumar helped India cross the 150-run mark in 17.5 overs.

Suryakumar and Virat kept on piling runs, helping India finish at 179/2 in 20 overs. Suryakumar brought his fifty with six on the last ball. Virat finished with 62* off 44 balls with three boundaries and two sixes while Suryakumar finished with 51* off 25 balls with seven fours and a six. The duo formed an unbeaten 95-run stand in 48 balls.

Fred Klaassen and Paul van Meekeran took a wicket each for Dutch.

PM Modi To Launch 'Viksit Bharat @2047: Voice Of Youth' On Monday

New Delhi, Dec 10: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will on Monday launch 'Viksit Bharat @2047: Voice of Youth' via video conferencing.

PM Modi, on the occasion, will also address the Vice Chancellors of the Universities, Heads of Institutes and faculty members in workshops organised at Raj Bhawans across the country, which will symbolise the start of the initiative.

According to a release from PMO, PM Modi's vision is to actively involve the youth of the country in the formulation of national plans, priorities and goals of the country.

"In line with this vision, 'Viksit Bharat @2047 : Voice of Youth' initiative will provide a platform to the youth of the country to contribute ideas to the vision of Viksit Bharat @2047," the PMO said.

The workshops will be a key step towards initiating the process of engaging youth to share their ideas and suggestions for Viksit Bharat @2047.

Viksit Bharat@2047 is the vision to make India a developed nation by 2047, the 100th year of its independence.
The vision encompasses various aspects of development, including economic growth, social progress, environmental sustainability, and good governance, among others.

Gender Ratio Alarming In Odisha; BJP Holds BJD Govt Responsible

Bhubaneswar, Dec 10: Equal ratio in Female and Male childbirths is important to take forward the human generation in general, and individual clans in particular. It seems that a danger has emerged for the sustenance of the Odia clan in the right direction.

We have now a clue to substantiate our apprehension. The male-female gender ratio has become a matter of worry now.

What is disappointing is the declining ratio has remained consistent for the last four years. This year, the ratio stands at 1000: 925. This means Odisha gets 925 female childbirths per 1000 male childbirths, which is very alarming. According to available data, the ratio is on the wane for the last four years.

Though the number of women population is the lowest in Haryana still the northwest State has a big solace that the gender gap is rising every year.

The declining gender ratio has added to the woes of the fair sex clan in Odisha where the incident of violence against women has taken a dangerous proportion. According to the NCRB report, Odisha records seven rape cases every day.

The Bharatiya Janata Party has targeted the BJD government over the issue.

“Women have not been given due respect during the 23 years of rule of the BJD government. Women are not safe in the State. The gender ratio has turned into an alarming position in Odisha. Now, there are 925 girls against 1000 boys in Odisha. Why this gap,” wanted to know BJP State chief
She blamed the BJD Government for the decline in male-female ratio. “While the women population is rising in Haryana, why this is not happening in Odisha? The faulty policy and inefficiency of the BJD government is solely responsible,” contended the chief.

According to the National Crime Record Bureau (NCRB), the incidents of violence against women and crimes related to women are also rising. While there were 1,55,420 such cases were registered in 2021,the number rose to 1,78,190 in the year 2022.

Odisha stands first in the country among the States witnessing incidents of violence against women.
Cases of women suicide have risen alarmingly by 613 percent. Where there were 613 women suicide cases registered in 2022, the number rose to 2,691 in 2023. The conviction rate in these cases has remained very dismal at 8 percent only.

Opposition parties have severely criticized the BJD government often alleging that it is not taking action against the BJD MPs, MLAs, and Leaders involved in criminal cases, including violence against women.

“From the NCRB data, it is clear that women are not at all safe. Police stations are not receiving complaints related to incidents of violence against women. In its 23 years of rule, the BJD government has not taken any development programmes for women, “alleged the BJP Mahila chief.

She demanded that the Chief Minister should inform the people of the State how many girl children are missing now and what measures his government has taken for the safety of women and to enhance the gender ratio.
