Toronto [Canada], Apr 21: India's chess prodigy D Gukesh played a clever game to defeat France's Alireza Firouzja in a round 13 clash of the FIDE Candidates 2024 on Sunday.

With one round remaining, Gukesh went to the top of the standings, leading Hikaru Nakamura of the United States and Ian Nepomniachtchi of Russia.
The victor of the eight-player event will have the opportunity to challenge the reigning world champion for the title.

Gukesh currently has 8.5 points, with Hikaru and Nepomniachtchi tied for second with 8.0 each.

The 17-year-old also surpassed compatriot Arjun Erigaisi to become India's top player with a live rating of 2762.8, propelling him to sixth place in the world rankings.

Gukesh will meet Nakamura with black pieces in the last round, where a draw will earn him tiebreaks, but a win against the American will assure him a spot in the world championship match.

Bhubaneswar, May 4: The election manifesto of the Odisha unit of the BJP will be released tomorrow," informed the party's State vice-president Golak Mohapatra at a Presser here today.

Mohapatra said BJP national president JP Nadda will release the election manifest after arriving in Bhubandwat at 3 pm.
Besides releasing the manifesto, Nadda will hold talks with party workers of Bhubaneswar regarding the party's strategies for the ensuing Lok Sabha and Assembly polls.

Later, Nadd will go to Cuttack and discuss matters relating to elections with party leaders and workers.
Mohapatra said the national president would tell party leaders and workers about the issues they would raise before people during the campaigning.

On the occasion, Mohapatra also informed about Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Odisha.

Mission Shakti Not Property of BJD: Jaya Narayan

Sambalpur, May 4: In a sharp reaction to BJD's Sambalpur Lok Sabha candidate Pranab Prakash Das, Leader of Opposition in Odisha Assembly and MLA candidate for Samablpur seat Jaya Narayan Mishra on Saturday said Mission Shakti is not the property of the Biju Janata Dal.

He said while the Narendra Modi government is making Lakhpati Didi (Women owning lakhs of rupees), the BJD government is employing the Mission Shakti Secretary in the BJD's favour.

"The Modi government has been busy in making Lakhpati Didis. Mission Shakti is not the sole property of the Biju Janata Dal. The Modi government is committed to making Mission Shakti women self-reliant and empowered," Mishra wrote in X.

The LoP criticized the BJD government for the Mission Shakti Secretary working as a BJD worker.

"When action was taken against the Mission Shakti Secretary for working as a BJD worker, it is political immaturity to term the action unjustified," wrote Mishra.

Questioning the BJD's position, Mishra said, "The BJD's condition is known to all. A Gumasta has turned out to be the BJD's owner. Leaders like Pranab (Das) are engaged in Dwarpal (Gatekeeping) and traffic work. They are decking up stages, spreading sheets and putting chairs for the gumasta."
