Raja Bhoga:
The prescribed time for Sakala Dhupa in Shree Jagananth temple is around 10AM. It is also called Kotha Bhoga or Raja Bhoga.
In the past the Gajapati Maharaja of Puri, who managed the temple used to bear the expenditure of this this Bhoga or Sakala Dhupa’s food offerings. So, it was termed Raja Bhoga. The word Kotha in Odia means joint property. As the temple has been taken over by the Government, at present the cost of this food offering is borne by the Temple Administration. In this case it hinst at expenditure by the temple administration.
Delicacy casket:
All the raw materials like rice, wheat, ghee, sugar, fuel, kudua (earthen pot), vegetables etc. required for the cooking of Sakala Dhupa bhogas are supplied by the Temple Administration.
Three Pujapanda sevayats perform the Bhoga puja of Sakala Dhupa with Sodasa Upachara. It means that this worship has 16 aspects. Sakala Dhupa is offered inside the Garbhagruha or inner sanctum of the temple. After Sakala Dhupa, its offerings are distributed as Khei (dues) among the savayats of the day including the Gajapati Maharaja. An Alati or Arati of the deities follows the Sakala Dhupa.
