A day before the results of the Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections, a BJP delegation led by Union Minister Pradhan met the Election Commission (EC) today.
“Today, we met the Election Commission. SP chief Akhilesh Yadav has given a desperate remark as he fears defeat in UP. The language he used yesterday is dangerous for democracy. You (Akhilesh Yadav) had earlier won elections through this process only. You should accept people's mandate,” Pradhan told reporters after meeting the EC.
He tried to challenge the constitutional process and the authorities. The kind of language that Akhilesh Yadav is using is like a threat. It is dangerous for democracy, the BJP leader added.
“Everyone knows what happened in Varanasi. The EVMs are kept in the strong room after the signatures of the representatives of all the parties. EVMs are being monitored by CCTV. The Election Commission is free to take cognizance of any issue,” he added.
On Tuesday, SP chief Yadav has alleged malpractices before counting and said that a truck carrying EVMs had been intercepted by party workers in Varanasi while two other trucks managed to speed away.
The BJP said that raising questions on EVM is anti-democratic. The saffron party also said that the BJP did not question EVMs after the defeat in Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan and other states.
