The held peddler duo has been identified as Yogendra Tiwari (60) and Shivashankar Choudhary (50). Both are residents of Bihar State.
As per the report, Machkund Police got a tip-off on a tender coconut laden truck (Registration Number- UP 53 CT 5545) carrying ganja this morning swung into action.
A police team comprising of Inspector Prafulla Lakra, Sub Inspector Dillip Pradhan and D Batria under the supervision of Nandpur SDPO Sanjay Mohapatra intercepted the truck at Kanchana chhak and carried out a frisk to discover 28 gunny bags carrying ganja. The consignment had been hidden inside the coconut.
As the duo boarding the truck failed to produce necessary permit for ganja transportation, police took them into custody and seized the consignment.
Police also seized several documents, mobile phones and cash from the arrestees’ possession.
Weighing 701 kg and 400 grams, the seized ganja consignment will have a market value over Rs 70 lakh. It was being sent from Sagara, Lamataput to Bihar, said police.
