Vedanta Aluminium, India’s largest producer of aluminium, recently supported the “Suravi Children’s Festival”- a state-level platform for nurturing young talents from the local communities.

Sundargarh, Oct 15: In a bid to scout and spotlight the latent talent in the rural school students as well as foster them to move forward, Vedanta Aluminium, India’s largest producer of aluminium, recently supported the “Suravi Children’s Festival”- a state-level platform for nurturing young talents from the local communities.

The event was held in Girisma Upper Primary School and registered the enthusiastic participation of students from 186 schools representing 18 Gram Panchayats (GPs) within Hemgir block in tribal-dominated Sundargarh district.

The significant event featured a diverse range of engagements, including arts and crafts, singing, music, dancing, debating, essay writing, elocution, and creative writing.

While the festival was graced by Karuna S Patel, Block Education Officer (BEO), Hemgir Block along with other distinguished guests, they all laid stress on the importance of overall growth and holistic development of the school students.

Speaking on this occasion, BEO Patel stated, “Suravi is an initiative that grooms up future leaders. Kudos to the support of Vedanta for providing the rural students with a unique platform so that they could showcase their talents as well as learn the value of collaboration and perseverance.”

Expressing his appreciation, Kishore Ark, Additional Block Education Officer (ABEO), Hemgir block, said, “The Suravi festival, with Vedanta’s support, has become a platform for the students to showcase their talents, promoting an environment where they can dream big and aim high. Such initiatives create a positive ripple-effect across our community.”

All-India Chess Tournament: Atharv Soni Leads With Four Others In Sixth Round

Mumbai, Oct 15: Atharv Soni of Maharashtra registered a calculative win against compatriot Om Gada and with 5.5 points shares, the lead with IM Vikramaditya Kulkarni, Yash Watarkar, Arnav Kherdekar, all Maharashtra and Delhi’s AIM Saikath Nath at the end of the sixth round of the SMCA Chess School organised 1st All India FIDE Rating Open Chess Tournament 2024, played here at the Russian House on Tuesday.

The Thane-based Soni (rating 1968) playing with the black pieces started with the French Tarrasch variation. Gada (1807) made a mistake on the 24th move by playing the pawn to g4 and that allowed Soni the upper hand and the black Bishop pair proved very strong and was instrumental in securing the win.

Meanwhile, on the top two boards, IM Vikramaditya Kulkarni (2125) was forced to share honours with city mate Arnav Kherdekar (1846) while Pune’s Yash Watarkar (1963) faced quite a challenge from Delhi’s AIM Saikat Nath (1829) before splitting two points.

Following closely behind the lead pack are, Sanjeev Mishra, Kshaunish Jaiswal, and Yash Kapadi, all winning their respective sixth-round of matches and with five points each are still in contention of finishing among the top.

Mumbai-based Mishra (1885) defeated Thane’s Anirudh Subramanian (1627) on the fourth board. Shaunish Jaiswal (1641) of Mumbai beat the higher-ranked Saurabh Kulkarni (1839), and Yash Kapadi (1818) of Palghar outwitted Manya Balani (1590) of Gujarat to stay in the hunt.

Darsh Shetty (Mumbai), Deepak Soni (Palghar), Yuti Patel (Mumbai), and Tarun N (Delhi) also won their sixth round matches and are in contention of finishing at the top all having five points each.

Political Violence A ‘No-Go Area’, Says CEC In Backdrop Of Baba Siddique Killing

New Delhi, Oct 15: The sensational murder of NCP leader Baba Siddique in Mumbai found mention in the Election Commission’s briefing here on Tuesday with Chief Election Commissioner (ECE) Rajiv Kumar reassuring that crimes with political overtones would be an absolute “no-go area” for the Commission.

Answering a question without naming Maharashtra or the slain NCP leader, Kumar expressed confidence that the Commission will be able to prevent any form of political violence in the state that may deter voters.

Kumar said after the declaration of the Model Code of Conduct, the Election Commission of India (ECI) is planning to make it clear to the police authorities and civil authorities in the state (Maharashtra) that “violence of any kind and crime of this nature which has political overtones would be absolutely a no-go area for the Commission.”

“We are going to immediately issue strict instructions, we will direct everyone that any form of violence or crime, especially against any political person, should not happen, should not repeat,” he said.

“We have not allowed it to happen in Haryana and Jammu and Kashmir, state after state and we are sure it will not happen,” said the CEC.

Replying to a question related to concerns raised by the NCP SP, Kumar said the ECI had accepted the party’s request to remove an election symbol that was causing confusion with its trumpet symbol.

“We have also accepted the new design for the election symbol suggested by the party,” said Kumar.

The CEC said the party has also been given the go-ahead to start accepting political donations, as per the laid down rules.

Earlier, the CEC described the use of artificial intelligence and deep-fakes as “very serious issues” that are posing a challenge to the conduct of free and fair elections.

“The AI-related nuisance is being controlled through our social media monitoring teams and police headquarters in states… in some cases, the content has been blocked, taken down or criminal action has been taken,” said Kumar, assuring that the ECI would take down objectionable content the day it crosses the red line.

During the briefing, the CEC announced the Assembly election schedule and said that Maharashtra will vote in one phase on November 20 and Jharkhand will vote in two phases on November 13 and November 20. The results in both the states will be declared on November 23. (IANS)
