Puri Gajapati Maharaja Dibyasingha Deb on Tuesday said legal action would be taken against the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) if the organisation doesn't refrain from holding the untimely Rath Yatra of Lord Jagannath.

Bhubaneswar, Nov 4: Puri Gajapati Maharaja Dibyasingha Deb on Tuesday said legal action would be taken against the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) if the organisation doesn't refrain from holding the untimely Rath Yatra of Lord Jagannath.

The Puri Gajapati said all efforts would be made to desist the ISKCon from holding Rath Yatra of Lord Jagannath on unscheduled days.

"Holding Rath Yatra on other days than scheduled Tithi of Shree Jagannath Temple, Puri is sheerly a violation of Mahaprabhu's Niti. It is not acceptable," Gajapati told a Press conference today.

The Puri king said the ISKCON has not announced the cancellation of its November 9 Rath Yatra at Huston in the USA. It has also planned to hold Rath Yatra in another country on that day.

"After we complained, the ISKCON stopped the untimely Snana Yatra (Bathing Ceremony) of Mahaprabhu. But it has not said if it will stop the scheduled November 9 Rath Yatra," said Gajapati.

Gajapati, the Chairman of the Shreemandir Managing Committee, said the Shree Jagannath Temple Administration has always opposed the ISKCON's schedules of untimely Rath Yatra. The ISKCON stopped Rath Yatra in the country but is organizing the ritual in foreign countries, informed the Gajapati.

The Puri Gajapati said all Jagannath temples across the country and outside have been advised to follow the Shreemandir while holding the Lord's rituals. If ISKCON violates the Niti tradition, we will certainly approach the court of law for justice, he said.

Bank Deposit Growth In India Outpaces Credit Offtake For 1st Time In Last 30 Months

New Delhi, Nov 5: Bank deposits rose at 8.6 per cent compared to December 2023, reaching Rs 218.1 lakh crore (as of October 18), a report showed on Tuesday, adding that on an annual basis, deposit growth has outpaced credit offtake for the first time in the last 30 months.

This growth can be attributed to rising term deposit rates of Scheduled Commercial Banks (SCBs), said the report by CareEdge Ratings.

In absolute terms, deposits have expanded by Rs 17.3 lakh crore over the last nine months.

“Deposits have remained prominent in FY25 as banks have intensified efforts to strengthen their liability franchise. The banks are also sourcing funds via the certificates of deposits at a relatively higher cost,” the report mentioned.

The credit-deposit (CD) ratio has been hovering around 80 per cent since September 2023. The CD ratio witnessed a marginal uptick reaching 79.0 per cent for the fortnight ending October 18, compared to 79.5 per cent in December 2023.

Additionally, when comparing growth rates with December 2023, deposit growth has continued to outpace credit offtake.

Credit offtake increased by 8.0 per cent compared to December 2023, reaching Rs 172.4 lakh crore as of October 18.

“Mortgages and MSMEs account for the bulk of this increase. However, the growth slowdown compared to last year can be attributed to a higher base effect due to the merger and RBI measures such as higher risk weights and the proposed LCR norms,” the report mentioned.

The Short-term Weighted Average Call Rate (WACR) has decreased to 6.43 per cent as of October 18, 2024, compared to 6.74 per cent as of October 27, 2023, indicative of surplus liquidity.

On year-on-year (YoY) performance, credit saw a growth of 11.7 per cent, slower than the last year’s rate of 19.7 per cent. Meanwhile, deposits saw a growth of 11.8 per cent, compared to 13.4 per cent last year.

Omar Abdullah Heaps Praise On Late Atal Bihari Vajpayee For His J&K Vision

Srinagar, Nov 5: Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah said on Tuesday that the erstwhile state would not have been downgraded to a Union Territory had the road map of former Prime Minister, late Atal Bihari Vajpayee been followed.

Speaking during the obituary references in the legislative Assembly, Omar Abdullah said that J&K would not have been downgraded to a UT had late Vajpayee’s strategy on Kashmir been followed.

CM Omar recalled that after the then Assembly passed a resolution for greater autonomy to J&K, which New Delhi had rejected during Vajpayee’s prime ministership, “Vajpayee realised his mistake and then he designated the then law minister to engage in a dialogue with the state government on the subject. But, as providence would have it, he passed away and that was it.”

“What should I say about late Vajpayee? He was a great visionary. Vajpayee was a towering personality, who started the Lahore bus and went to Minar-e-Pakistan.

“He always tried to build friendly ties with Pakistan. He was the one who continuously stated that friends can be changed, but not neighbours”, CM Omar added.

He said that Vajpayee’s slogan of 'Insaniyat, (humanity), Jamhuriyat (Democracy) and Kashmiriyat (identity of the Kashmiri people)’ was full of vision and a reflection of his statesmanship.

Omar said that it was Vajpayee who opened roads to connect the people of divided parts of J&K. “The motive behind opening of roads was to connect people and the civil society so that a personal relationship is created.

“But, unfortunately, the path and the road map shown by Vajpayee has been left midway and instead of connecting people, distances are being created.

“If Vajpayee’s road map on J&K would have been implemented and followed, we would not have been where we are at present,” Omar said as he paid rich tributes to Vajpayee.

The chief minister also paid tribute to BJP MLA, late Devender Singh Rana stating that he wasn’t aware about the health condition of his friend.

“If I am more pained over the death of any member, that is Devender. He was a great friend with whom I have spent the prime time of my life. I never knew about his failing health. If I would have been aware of his health, perhaps I would have tried to end the distances and indignation”, Omar said.

MUDA Case: K'taka HC Issues Notice To Siddaramaiah, Next Hearing On Nov 26

Bengaluru, Nov 5: The Karnataka High Court on Tuesday issued notice to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah in connection with a plea seeking a CBI probe into the Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA) case.

Adjourning the hearing in the case to November 26, a bench, headed by Justice M. Nagaprasanna, also issued notices to Siddaramaiah's wife Parvathy, brother-in-law Mallikarjuna Swamy and land owner J. Devaraju asking them to file an objection if they have any against the petition.

The bench directed the Karnataka Lokayukta to submit a report on the progress of the investigation in the case till November 25.

Public prosecutor B. N. Jagadish sought two weeks to file objections.

RTI activist Snehamayi Krisha on September 27 submitted a petition before the High Court demanding a CBI probe against CM Siddaramaiah.

Krishna had stated in his petition that he does not think Lokayukta can ensure a transparent probe.

He said that the Lokayukta institution comes under the state government, and officers are designated by the government. Therefore, he was not confident of a transparent and unbiased investigation into the case.

On Monday, the Karnataka Lokayukta served notice to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to appear on Wednesday for questioning in connection with the alleged irregularities.
