The Commissionerate police enforced 'Operation Maznoo' to trap and nab the accused on the complaint of women whom he had married and duped of lakhs of rupees.
According to Police Commissioner Sanjeeb Panda, the modus operandi of the accused is he used to introduce himself as an Inspector of Odisha Police or Intelligence Bureau Inspector before divorcing women and widows to allure them to marry him. He married five such women and looted them of their gold ornaments, deposits, and other valuables worth lakhs of rupees. He was leading a lavish life with the looted money.
During 'Operation Maznoo', police traced the accused in distant Dubai where he worked with a company. A policewoman, identifying her as a rich and gentle woman, chatted with him for many days and finally dated him. This way he was trapped.
The accused was arrested as he arrived in Bhubaneswar to meet the policewoman.
Police said the accused used to take loans in the name of his wives and buy cars with the loan money. He was giving those cars on rent and earning money.
His phone records showed that he was in contact with 49 other women.
"The accused is a native of Jajpur district and staying in the Chandrasekharpur area of Bhubaneswar," said Panda.
