Speaker Surama Padhy adjourned the House following a disruption caused by members of the Opposition, including the BJD and Congress.
Pandemonium broke out this evening after a censure motion, moved by Parliamentary Affairs minister Mukesh Mahaling against Congress MLA Tara Prasad Bahinipati and BJD members- Dhrub Sahu and Braja Pradhan for their unruly behaviour inside the well of the House, was adopted by a voice vote.
In protest of the censure motion, angry BJD and Congress MLAs stormed into the well of the House and raised slogans against the BJP government for over 30 minutes.
The Speaker also sent the matter to the Ethics Committee of the Assembly after two women BJP members- Upasana Mohapatra and Sanjali Murmu- submitted a petition alleging that the trio used unparliamentarily words against the Speaker and disrupted House proceedings.
The first session, which commenced on July 22, was initially scheduled to conclude on September 13, with a break from August 1 to 19.
During this session, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, who also handles the Finance Department, presented an annual budget of Rs2.65 lakh crore for the 2024-25 financial year on July 25. This was BJP government’s first Budget in Odisha.
The appropriation Bill was adopted on September 10.
