Bhubaneswar, July 8: Trouble seems to be mounting on singers Humane Sagar and Ruku Sona after an FIR was filed against the duo on Monday for allegedly mocking a timeless bhajan dedicated to Lord Jagannath.

Human rights activist Shiva Sundar Swain lodged a complaint at Capital Police station here accusing singers Humane Sagar and Ruku Sona of hurting the religious sentiment of Jagannath devotees by singing a Jagannath bhajan in an offensive tone.

According to the complaint, a video has gone viral recently in which the two singers can be seen using vulgar lyrics in place of the original lyrics of the popular Lord Jagannath Bhajan while the tune of the original song was imitated.

The two singers were also seen laughing out loud and having fun by singing the questionable version of the original devotional song, sung by Banikantha Nimai Charan Harichandan.

This mockery of the devotional song has hurt the religious sentiments of the devotees of Lord Jagannath, Swain alleged demanding stern action against both the singers.

Notably, the incident has taken place at a time when the Rath Yatra festival of Lord Jagannath and his siblings is celebrated in Odisha and abroad.

Haryana Sees 67.90 Pc Polling, Says Chief Electoral Officer

Chandigarh, Oct 6: Haryana Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Pankaj Agarwal said on Sunday that 67.90 per cent voting took place on October 5 for the 15th Assembly election in the state.
The ballots will be counted on Tuesday.

The highest 75.36 per cent voting was recorded in the Sirsa district and the lowest 56.49 per cent voting was recorded in the Faridabad district.

As per the constituency, the highest 80.61 per cent voting was recorded in Ellenabad and the lowest 48.27 per cent voting was recorded in Badkhal.

Agarwal said the elections were peaceful.

Giving information, he said that 67.62 per cent voting has taken place in Ambala district, while 65.23 per cent voting was recorded in Panchkula district, 74.20 per cent in Yamunanagar district, 69.59 per cent in Kurukshetra district, 72.36 per cent in Kaithal district, 65.67 per cent in Karnal district, 68.80 per cent in Panipat district, 66.08 per cent in Sonipat district, 72.19 per cent in Jind district and 74.77 per cent in Fatehabad district.

Similarly, Hisar district recorded 70.58 per cent voting, Bhiwani district recorded 70.46 per cent, Charkhi Dadri district recorded 69.58 per cent, Rohtak district recorded 66.73 per cent, Jhajjar district recorded 65.69 per cent, Mahendragarh district recorded 70.45 per cent, Rewari district recorded 67.99 per cent, Gurugram district recorded 57.96 per cent, Mewat district recorded 72.81 per cent and Palwal recorded 73.89 per cent voting.

Voting for the 90 Assembly constituencies was held in a single phase from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. A total of 20,632 polling stations were set up. Out of 2,03,54,350 voters in the state, 1,38,19,776 voters cast their vote.

Out of these, 74,28,124 men, 63,91,534 women, and 118 third gender voters exercised their franchise.

Agarwal said preparations were made at various levels to ensure smooth conduct of the polling. As per the instructions of the Election Commission of India (ECI), webcasting was arranged at polling stations for strict and continuous monitoring of the polling process.

Ninety-seven central observers were also deployed by the ECI for field monitoring and continuous feedback.

The CEO added that due to continuous efforts for inducement-free elections, banned material worth Rs 75.97 crore was seized in the state since the announcement of elections.

He said that 225 companies of Central Armed Police Forces were deployed to maintain law and order and to ensure peaceful polling in the elections.

Haryana Police also made strict security arrangements in the state.

To conduct the Assembly elections in a free, fair, and peaceful manner, 29,462 police personnel, 21,196 Home Guard jawans, and 10,403 SPOs were deployed.

Women’s T20 WC: Arundhati’s Career-Best Figures Of 3-19 Helps India Beat Pakistan By Six Wickets

Dubai, Oct 6: Seam-bowling all-rounder Arundhati Reddy picked her career-best figures of 3-19 while opener Shafali Verma top-scored with 32 as India beat Pakistan by six wickets to get their first win of the 2024 Women’s T20 World Cup at the Dubai International Stadium on Sunday.

On a slow and low pitch, with the venue hosting its 100th T20I game, India put in a much-improved effort with the ball after their 58-run thrashing at the hands of New Zealand by bowling tighter lines and not giving any freebies to Pakistan. Apart from Arundhati’s impressive spell, Shreyanka Patil also shined with 2-12 to set the base for India’s win.

At one point, Pakistan were in danger of not reaching three figures, before lower-order contributions, led by Nida Dar’s 28, helped them get past 100 in an innings where they played 58 dot balls.

In reply, India were expected to complete the chase in a jiffy, with an eye to boost their net run rate. But with Pakistan being disciplined with their bowling, India could amass only 25/1 in power-play and never showed urgency to take risks to finish the chase quickly. Shafali, Jemimah Rodrigues (23) and Harmanpreet Kaur (29) ensured India’s chase, which saw only four boundaries being hit, was completed with seven balls to spare.

Renuka Singh Thakur brought India the first breakthrough by castling Gull Feroza with a big inswinger in the opening over. Muneeba Ali and Sidra Amin hit three boundaries collectively in a 24-run stand before the latter went too early on a sweep off Deepti Sharma and got a deflection off her glove onto the stumps.

With pressure building on Pakistan, Omaima Sohail tried to break free by hitting Arundhati down the ground but chipped to mid-off. Muneeba, dropped by Asha Sobhana on 14, danced down the pitch but was deceived by a short ball from Shreyanka, which spun past her and was easily stumped from behind by Richa Ghosh.

Arundhati had her second wicket when her sharp nip-backer trapped Aliya Riaz lbw and could have got another scalp Fatima Sana out if Asha had not dropped the catch. Fatima swept Asha for back-to-back boundaries before an outside edge on an attempted sweep which was caught by Richa, who showed incredible reflexes by sticking her right hand out to take a stunning one-handed catch.

After Tuba Hassan’s top edge was caught at short fine leg off Shreyanka, Nida and Syeda Aroob Shah stitched a 28-run stand for the eighth wicket. But Arundhati ended the partnership by rattling Nida’s off-stump before Nashra Sandhu’s unbeaten six, including a lofted four down the ground on the last ball, ensured Pakistan crossed the 100-run mark.

Chasing 106, Shafali survived an lbw decision off Fatima Sana when the replay showed the ball missing stumps. With Pakistan stifling run-flow with tight bowling, the pressure was on India to cut loose in the chase. In an attempt to break free, Smriti Mandhana sliced a wide ball from Sadia Iqbal to point in the fifth over.

After India ended the power play with just the second instance of them not hitting a boundary inside the six-over phase in women's T20Is, Shafali hit India’s first boundary by pulling Tuba for four on the first ball of the eighth over. She then lofted a low-full toss from Tuba for four before slog-sweeping Omaima Sohail for another boundary.

Just as Shafali signalled a shift of gears, she danced down the pitch to loft Omaima but holed out to long-on. A boundary-less run of almost five overs resulted in Jemimah trying to break free by giving herself room to go inside-out against Fatima but got a thick edge behind.

One brought two for Fatima as Richa Ghosh went for a cut on her first ball, but gave a thin edge behind. Harmanpreet took India closer to the win with a lofted shot over cover off a slower ball from Fatima but retired hurt on 29 after losing her balance and injuring her neck. Sajeevan Sajana finished off the game in style with a lofted four over mid-off to give India its sixth T20 World Cup win over Pakistan.

Brief scores: Pakistan 105/8 (Nida Dar 28; Arundhati Reddy 3-19, Shreyanka Patil 2-12) lost to India 108/4 in 18.5 overs (Shafali Verma 32, Harmanpreet Kaur 29 retired hurt; Fatima Sana 2-23) by six wickets.

Mohan Majhi Govt's Historic Decision: Hirakud Dam To Be Repaired

Bhubaneswar, Oct 6: In a major decision, the Mohan Majhi Government has issued a resolution announcing to repair the Hirakud Dam and canals at a total cost of Rs 855 crore.

The work will be completed in four years.

Dam irrigation canal, Bargarh main canal, Sasan main canal and other distributary canals are in a dilapidated condition for many years. They need to be repaired and renovated. Siphon, HR, CRAB, VRB etc. will also be done.
