Berhampur, Jan 19: In a gruesome incident, a youth reportedly killed his paternal uncle and sister-in-law over a land dispute in Paladhuapalli village under Khallikote police station limits in Ganjam district this afternoon.
The deceased have been identified as Shiva Dakua and Jayanti Dakua.
Police have detained the accused and are interrogating him.
Though the exact reason behind the incident is yet to be known, it is suspected that the accused and the victims had a land dispute between them for long. The accused attacked Shiva and Jayanti with a sharp weapon. Family members rushed the two to a hospital in a critical condition. However, doctors declared them dead.

Nick took to his Instagram account on Friday, to explain that he won't be able to perform onstage due to his sickness.
The singer apologized to his fans for 'disappointing' them and mentioned that the Jonas Brothers' show dates have been changed.
The trio, consisting of Kevin Jonas, Nick Jonas, and Joe Jonas, was set to perform in Mexico this weekend.
In the video, Nick said, "Hey everybody, it's Nick here. I have some not-so-fun news to share. A couple of days ago, I started feeling kind of rough; I lost my voice when I woke up and grinded that night out...Over the last two, two and a half days, it's gotten progressively worse. I was basically in bed all day yesterday, fever, body ache, sore throat and really bad cough." He added that after the doctor did a checkup, his health hadn't "gotten better."
"I just need to recover and beat these things. I'm so sorry. I hate disappointing you guys. You do so much to support us. A lot of you have travelled out to be at that show. Just want to say I'm heartbroken over this. Again, I'm really sorry, but I gotta try to beat this thing," he added.
Sharing the video on his Instagram, Nick wrote a long caption that read, "Hi guys. I have come down with the nasty strain of influenza-A that's been going around, and I'm not able to sing at the moment.

New Delhi, May 4: Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk, on Saturday, said that a new update on "improved image matching" will defeat deepfakes as well as shallowfakes on social media platform X.
The new update will show notes on 30 per cent more posts that contain “similar or identical images.”
“We just rolled out the update and will be monitoring for any erroneous image matches,” X said in a post.
Musk added that this move “should make a big difference in defeating deepfakes (and shallowfakes).”
Shallowfakes are photos, videos and voice clips generated without the help of artificial intelligence (AI), and use widely available editing and software tools.
X notes on images automatically show on posts that contain a matching image.
“It’s common for these notes to match on dozens, hundreds and sometimes thousands of posts. Now, you can see how many posts an image note is matching on, right in note details,” according to the company.
In the global election season, experts have warned about the spread of fake news and deepfakes that aim to interfere with polls.
The independent Oversight Board which has 22 global human rights and freedom of expression experts from across the globe, has called for urgent action to tackle deepfakes threatening global elections.

Bhubaneswar, May 4: Santosh Khatua, a former BJD leader who has been fielded by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) from the Nilgiri Assembly seat in Odisha, said that he joined the ruling party at the centre as he did not want to remain in a "small pond".
The BJP on Friday named Santosh Khatua as its candidate for Nilgiri assembly seat in Odisha's Balasore district, thus completing the process of announcing nominees for the simultaneous elections in the state.
Speaking to ANI after the BJP announced its candidature, Khatua dubbed Naveen Patnaik-led BJD a "small pond" unlike the BJP, which he called a "big ocean".
"For the past 10 years, I have been working as a social worker. In 2019, I was given a ticket by BJD. BJP is the biggest central party. India's name is increasing in the world because of PM Narendra Modi. So I thought, why not go into the big ocean instead of staying in a small pond. So I joined the BJP. I got the ticket," Santosh Khatua said on Friday.
Santosh Khatua who lost the assembly elections as the BJD candidate, exuded his confidence in BJP securing a huge victory in the state elections.
"This time, we will win," he added.
Khatua had on Thursday resigned from the BJD after being denied a party ticket from Nilgiri seat. He joined the BJP and was nominated by the BJP. In the 2019 polls, Khatua had contested for the seat as a BJD candidate but lost to BJP's Sukant Nayak.
Odisha will go for simultaneous Lok Sabha and assembly polls. Lok Sabha and assembly polls in the state will be held in four phases on May 13, May 20, May 25 and June 1. The votes will be counted on June 4.
