Addressing a public rally in Madhya Pradesh's Ashok Nagar in support of BJP candidate and Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, the UP Chief Minister stated that the Congress party wants to impose the Jizya tax of the Aurangzeb era in spite of knowing well the atrocities committed by the Mughal emperor.

"On one hand, Modiji says that he will end the elements of slavery and will respect the heritage. On the other, Congress talks about imposing inheritance tax," said Yogi Adityanath.

He also expressed full confidence in BJP-NDA's triumph in the ongoing Lok Sabha elections.

"I have visited nine states so far for the BJP's campaign and have noticed a one-sided wave in favour of PM Modi across the country," said CM Yogi.

Asserting that it was the Scindia family that had "pushed the Afghans out" of the Indian border, he also acknowledged Vijaya Raje Scindia's contribution to making the Ram temple dream in Ayodhya a reality.

Jyotiraditya Scindia, who ended his decades-long association with Congress and joined the BJP in March 2020, is contesting his sixth Lok Sabha election from his family bastion, Guna.

He had contested his last election on the Congress symbol in 2019 and lost to BJP's K.P. Yadav.

The Congress has fielded Rao Yadvendra Singh Yadav against Scindia. The election in Guna, along with eight other Lok Sabha seats in Madhya Pradesh including Bhopal and Vidisha, will be held on May 7.

Indian embassy in Kyrgyzstan urges students to stay indoors amid mob attacks

New Delhi, May 18: The Indian Embassy in Kyrgyzstan, on Saturday, urged Indian students to remain indoors following a series of mob attacks on foreign students.

This advisory came in the wake of several attacks on students from India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh, sparked by videos of a fight between Kyrgyz and Egyptian students that surfaced online on May 13.

The Embassy shared a message on its official X handle: "We are in touch with our students. The situation is presently calm, but students are advised to stay indoors for the moment and get in touch with the Embassy in case of any issues. Our 24×7 contact number is 0555710041."

Following the advisory, Minister of External Affairs S. Jaishankar retweeted the message, saying: "Monitoring the welfare of Indian students in Bishkek. Situation is reportedly calm now. Strongly advise students to stay in regular touch with the Embassy."

The Embassy and the Ministry of External Affairs are closely monitoring the situation to ensure the safety and security of Indian students in Kyrgyzstan.

MI skipper Hardik Pandya fined for maintaining slow over-rate, to miss first game of IPL 2025 season

Mumbai, May 18: The Mumbai Indians (MI) captain Hardik Pandya has been fined Rs 30 lakh and banned for one match after his team maintained a slow over-rate during their clash against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at the Wankhede Stadium on Friday in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024.

Pandya received a one-match suspension, the same as Delhi Capitals (DC) captain Rishabh Pant received earlier in the season because this was the third time MI have been found guilty of the same offence.

The five-time champions' ended their IPL campaign on Friday on a bitter note, which means Pandya will miss the team's first match of the next season. However in any case the the MI skipper moves to another team in the IPL 2025, the all-rounder will miss that particular team's opening game.

This was MI's third offence to fall short of maintaining the minimum over rate. In addition to the one-match suspension, Hardik was fined Rs 30 lakh, while the Impact Player and the other members of the playing XII were each fined INR 12 lakhs or 50 per cent of their respective match fees, whichever was lower.

A statement by IPL read, "As it was his team's third offence of the season under the IPL's Code of Conduct relating to a minimum over-rate offences, Pandya was fined INR 30 lakh and banned from playing the team's next match."

"The rest of the members of the playing XI, including the Impact Player, were each individually fined either Rs 12 lakh or 50 per cent of their respective match fees," the IPL statement read."

MI ended their season with an 18-run loss against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at their home Wankhede on Friday. It has been a disastrous season for the five-time champions, who managed just four wins from their 14 matches and finished at the bottom of the points table.

Meanwhile, in just 14 IPL 2024 matches, Hardik amassed 216 runs, including a 46-run maximum. The all-rounder's season began to fall apart quite early on, with an average of just 18 and a strike rate of 143.05.

Despite taking 11 wickets with the ball throughout the season, his economy rate was 10.75 and his average was 35.18.

Stock market special session today, Sensex jumps 120 points

Mumbai, May 18: Indian equity indices opened in green on Saturday, following positive global cues.

At 9:50 a.m., Sensex was up by 120 points or 0.15 per cent at 74,037 points, and Nifty was up 36 points or 0.16 per cent at 22,503 points.

The market is open in two sessions today due to the disaster recovery site test. The first session will be from 9:15 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. and the second session will be from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

A disaster recovery site has been created by the exchanges so that in case of any emergency, trading can be shifted to this site.

The Nifty midcap 100 index was up by 298 points or 0.56 per cent at 51,893 points and the Nifty smallcap 100 index was up 142 points or 0.84 per cent at 17,013 points.

In Sensex, 26 out of 30 shares were in the green.

Power Grid, Nestle, Asian Paints, IndusInd Bank, and TCS were the top gainers. JSW Steel, Axis Bank, ICICI Bank and ITC were the top losers.

As per market experts, "Dow Jones closing in record territory above 40,000 will continue to provide global support for equity markets. However, in India, the election-related jitters might continue to cause high volatility."
