The deceased has been identified as Jagadish Chouhan, a resident of Kalyanpur village under Jonk police station limits in Nuapada district. He breathed his last while undergoing treatment at VIMSAR, Burla.
As per reports, Jagadish, who belonged to SC community, had requested the Tehsildar of Nuapada Tehsil to grant permission to sell his own land to person belonging to other community. He also approached the Sub-Collector, Nuapada in this regard, but in vain.
Yesterday, the man visited the Tehsil office here and requested the Tehsildar to sort out his problems. However, the government official reportedly didn’t heed to his repeated requests.
Irked over the issue, Jagadish allegedly poured petrol on him and set himself on fire outside the Tehsil office here at around 1pm yesterday. He was rescued by locals in critical condition and immediately rushed to the District Headquarters Hospital here for treatment.
As his condition deteriorated, he was shifted to Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (VIMSAR), Burla where he succumbed to his burn injuries late last night.
