Zomato, Swiggy Hike Platform Fee To Rs 6 Per Order

Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has expressed his grief over the incident and announced ex-gratia for the next of kin of each deceased.

The incident took place near Samarjhola Chowk in the wee hours when an oil tanker collided with a passenger bus. The tanker was reportedly trying to overtake a truck which led to the accident. Both the bus and tanker rammed into a nearby tea stall following the collision.

The identities of the deceased are yet to be ascertained. However, preliminary investigation has revealed that three of them were the customers at the tea stall while another was a passenger in the bus. The fifth deceased succumbed to injuries at the hospital.

Police reached the spot after getting the information and started rescue operations. All the injured victims were rushed to MKCG Medical College and Hospital.

The bus was reportedly coming from Berhampur and heading towards Aska, while the tanker was coming from opposite direction. The tanker was trying to overtake a truck on its way, when it collided with the bus. After the collision, both the vehicles lost balance and rammed into the nearby tea stall. 

Ganjam Collector Dibyajyoti Parida arrived at the hospital after getting the information. Speaking on this tragic mishap, Parida said, "Five persons are dead. The injured are getting treated right now." 

Meanwhile, Dr Saroj Das, a doctor at the hospital, said that 13 injured persons have arrived so far at the hospital. "Two of them are in critical condition. Others are being treated and are stable," said Dr Das.

CM Majhi has announced an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh to the next kin of the deceased and Rs 1 lakh to the injured persons. He has also ordered to provide free medical treatment to the injured wishing them a speedy recovery.

At 9.44 am, Sensex was up 194 points or 0.24 per cent at 81,099 and Nifty was up 60 points or 0.24 per cent at 24,830.

The market trend remains positive. On the National Stock Exchange (NSE), 1,730 shares were in green and 423 shares in the red.

In early trade, Buying was being seen in IT and FMCG stocks. The Nifty IT index was up by 0.42 per cent and the Nifty FMCG index was up by 0.48 per cent.

On the NSE indices, PSU Bank, FMCG, metal and media were other major gainers. Auto, pharma, realty and energy were trading under pressure.

The Nifty Midcap 100 index was at 58,715, up 279 points or 0.48 per cent, and the Nifty Smallcap 100 index was at 19,141, up 75 points or 0.40 per cent.

In the Sensex pack, Infosys, Bharti Airtel, Tech Mahindra, IndusInd Bank, HUL, HDFC Bank and SBI were the top gainers. Power Grid, M&M, Tata Motors, NTPC, TCS and Axis Bank were the top losers.

Mixed trading is taking place in Asian markets. The markets of Tokyo and Hong Kong are bullish. the markets of Shanghai, Jakarta and Seoul are in the red. The US markets closed with gains on Wednesday.

Apurva Sheth, Head of Market Perspectives and Research, SAMCO Securities said, "Vast majority of FOMC members were in favour of cutting rates in the September meeting, as they believed that inflation is on its way down towards the 2 per cent. Since the risks to the employment goal have increased the FOMC members were in favour of rate cuts. This pushed the US 10-year bond yields lower while stocks rejoiced inching closer to a new all-time high once again."

"We believe that rate cut hopes in September will keep the market participants in a buoyant mood at least till the actual rate cuts materialise," Sheth added.

The foreign institutional investors (FIIs) sold equities worth Rs 799 crore on August 21, while domestic institutional investors bought equities worth Rs 3,097 crore on the same day.

This frequency band has unique properties that could make it crucial for next-generation wireless communication technologies, including 6G.

TRAI released its recommendations on the Tera Hertz Spectrum Wednesday. This followed a request from the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) December 8, 2022, for advice on using unused or minimally used spectrum bands in the Tera Hertz range for limited periods to generate demand.

"The purpose of THEA should be to promote Research & Development (R&D), indoor and outdoor testing, technology trial, experimentation, and demonstration in the 95 GHz to 3 THz range," stated TRAI.

These recommendations are intended to empower entrepreneurs, startups, and academic institutions to explore new technologies and applications within this high-frequency spectrum. The spectrum has immense potential in various fields, including telecommunications, automotive, and medical industries.

TRAI has proposed a five-year authorisation period for THEA, with the possibility of extending it for another five years. This allows for extensive experimentation and development. Innovators can apply for THEA by paying a nominal fee of Rs. 1,000, making it accessible to a wide range of stakeholders.

"Any Indian Entity (Academic institute, R&D Laboratory, Central/ State Government, public sector unit, Union Territory, Technology Park, telecommunication service provider, incubator, original equipment manufacturer, etc.) should be eligible to obtain THEA," mentioned TRAI.

The authorisation covers several frequency bands, including 116-123 GHz, 174.8-182 GHz, 185-190 GHz, and 244-246 GHz, with specific provisions for automotive radar systems in the 77-81 GHz range.

Experts believe THEA will significantly enhance India's technological landscape by enabling hands-on experimentation. This will help innovators assess the performance and viability of their products during crucial development stages. Additionally, it will support the "Make in India" initiative.

"Upon implementation, the new experimental authorisation regime recommended by the Authority will provide a boost to the 'Make in India' initiatives of the Government," TRAI added.

THEA's launch aligns with the government's broader vision of fostering a culture of innovation and research in the country.

"The introduction of next-generation wireless technologies that could be deployed both indoor and outdoor, operating over distances ranging from less than a meter to several hundred meters, and deliver increased capacity and reliability for existing use cases as well as new and emerging use cases," said TRAI.

By encouraging the development of advanced solutions, India aims to enhance its technological capabilities and contribute to global advancements in various industries. As the world turns to high-frequency technologies, THEA could elevate India's position on the global tech stage.
