Agartala, Oct 7: At least one person was killed and 17, including 15 cops were injured, in northern Tripura’s Kadamtala, where police opened fire in the air and resorted to lathi charge to disperse the mob after two religious communities clashed over the collection of Durga Puja donations, officials said Monday.

Superintendent of Police, North Tripura District, Bhanupada Chakraborty confirming the death said that a body was recovered Sunday night following the violent clashes and attacks but how the victim was killed is not yet confirmed.

“We are thoroughly investigating the entire episode of the attacks and counterattacks. At least 17 people, including 15 police personnel were injured in Sunday’s incidents,” Chakraborty told IANS over the phone from Dharmanagar.

The SP said that the situation in Kadamtala is now completely under control and police are taking appropriate action.

Two separate cases were registered in regard to the Kadamtala incident and so far eight people have been arrested.

The district administration on Sunday clamped prohibitory orders in Kadamtala police station jurisdiction under the Dharmanagar sub-division and a large contingent of security forces, including Tripura State Rifles (TSR), was deployed at the mixed-populated Kadamtala areas adjoining southern Assam.

An official of the district administration said that the prohibitory orders were clamped Sunday under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita in Kadamtala police station jurisdiction till Wednesday to control the situation and restore normalcy.

Another police official said that the dispute arose over the collection of Durga Puja donations and people of different communities attacked each other for several hours Sunday leading to communal tension at Kadamtala.

The official said that the mob vandalised many shops and houses and the police resorted to lathi-charge several times and opened fire in the air to disperse them.

North Tripura district police in a post on X said, “An incident related to law and order that occurred today under Kadamtala police station has been resolved with the intervention of religious leaders from both communities.”

“To further maintain peace in the area, Section 163 of the BNSS has been promulgated. We urge everyone to comply with this order, avoid gatherings, and refrain from spreading rumours or unverified information,” the district police said.

High tension prevailed in Kadamtala and some places of Dharmanagar subdivision, the district headquarters of North Tripura district.

Ruling BJP on Monday without specifying the names of any political party or organisation, said that conspiracies have been hatched for the past many weeks to disturb the peace and tranquillity of the state.

BJP Spokesman Nabendu Bhattacharjee said that senior police officials are camping in the trouble-torn Kadamtala and inquiring about the incident.

“Those people who are directly or indirectly involved with these violent incidents, attacks and instigation would be booked and stern legal action would be taken against them,” Bhattacharjee told the media alleging that a section of people are trying to create unrest ahead of the festive season.

Leader of the Opposition Jitendra Chaudhury talked to Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha and senior police officials to inquire about the situation. Chaudhury, also the CPI (M) state secretary, requested the Chief Minister to deploy the Border Security Force and the Assam Rifles to control the situation.

Former Minister and Congress MLA Sudip Roy Barman criticising Chief Minister Manik Saha wrote on his Facebook: “The chief minister was busy inaugurating a Durga Puja pandal in Agartala town till night when one people was killed in police firing and a bloody clash between two communities at Kadamtala market.”

He appealed to both communities to maintain peace, normalcy and brotherhood.

‘Bigg Boss 18’: Karan Veer Loses Cool On Afreen Khan, Avinash Mishra

Mumbai, Oct 8: In the upcoming episode of the controversial reality show “Bigg Boss 18”, actor Karan Veer Mehra will be seen losing his cool on co-housemates Arfeen Khan and Avinash Mishra.

On Day 1, the housemates were given a task to win their weekly ration. Going with the theme of “Time Ka Tandav”, the participants had to pair up and fill an hourglass with sand. Once the hourglass got almost empty the next pair would have to come and fill it till the top once again.

In the upcoming episode, going by the promo of the show, Karan Veer will be seen asking Arfeen Khan on why he didn't help him when he noticed he was performing the task alone.

An angered Afreen will be seen saying: “Aap faltu ki baat nahi karo mere saath.”

Karan replies: “Faltu ki baat kaise hui ye?”

Things get really heated, considering the task is based on pairs, Avinash, who had to join Karan, backs Arfeen, saying that Karan made a mistake.

“Wahin wrong hogaya,” implying Karan shouldn’t have started the task on his own.

An annoyed Karan said that Avinash doesn't deserve to speak, leading to a further heated verbal duel.

Avinash is then heard saying: "Ye mat bolo ke main bolne layak nahi hoon, baat ye hai ke tune akele start kar diya task.”

To which, Karan claps back and said: “Tu tadak mat kar.”

That’s not it. The first day was not as easy as it has mostly been as housemates were seen locking horns. It first began with Rajat Dalal and Tajinder Bagga.

Then a fight between contestant Chum Darang, who has worked in films such as “Badhaai Do” and Shehzada Dhami turned out to be unsavoury and yet controversial.

The fight turned ugly after Shehzada passed a comment suggesting that Chum, who hails from Arunachal Pradesh, is not Indian.

Chum got offended and lashed out at the actor. Shehzada fought back with equal power and said that she is playing a “card”.

Govt Notice, Poor Service, Tanking Stock: Ola Electric Skids Off The Road

New Delhi, Oct 8: From a show-cause notice from the government to consumers flooding social media platforms over myriad complaints regarding its e-scooters and service centres—while its share continues to slide—there appears no respite for Bhavish Aggarwal-run Ola Electric.

Ola Electric’s share touched its lowest at Rs 86 apiece Tuesday before recovering a bit—a massive 43-35 per cent drop from its all-time high of Rs 157.40 a few days earlier. The stock made its public debut at Rs 76 apiece.

In a stock exchange filing, the EV company admitted that it has received a show-cause notice from the Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA).

“The Central Consumer Protection Authority has provided a timeline of 15 days to the company to respond to the show cause notice. The company will respond to the CCPA within the given timeframe with the supporting documents,” said the EV company.

According to the show-cause notice, Ola Electric “appears to be in violation of several provisions of the Consumer Protection Act, 2019.”

It took serious note of the complaints by consumers related to manufacturing defects, partial or no refunds on booking cancellations, recurring defects despite servicing, overcharging, inaccurate invoices, and multiple issues with batteries and vehicle components.

The National Consumer Helpline, operated by the Department of Consumer Affairs, received 10,644 complaints since September last year related to Ola Electric.

Nidhi Khare, Secretary, Department of Consumer Affairs, said: “The CCPA is looking into a large number of complaints about Ola Electric, mainly related to service inefficiencies.”

“We hope the company addresses these concerns promptly and resolves the issues faced by consumers,” she mentioned.

Meanwhile, aggrieved customers continued to flood social media platforms, sharing their plight with hardware and software issues with its flagship electric two-wheeler.

“Even after the big announcement in service expansion, service centres are working the same. I delivered my scooter to Ola 3 weeks ago and received it last Saturday after completion of repair. Though it’s not properly fixed, OLA asked me to book RSA under my cost. I regret my decision to buy this scooter in 2022 even without a review. @bhash check yourself on this to understand what is going on,” posted an angry user on X.

Another commented: “Ola scooters, at their core, are poorly engineered products. People got carried away by the design aspect. The OLA updated 2.0 platform has taken away any repairability in the product and replacement is the only way for even minor issues. How is any of this GREEN?”

Early Trends Show BJP Leads In Haryana

Chandigarh, Oct 8: The BJP was leading in early trends in Haryana after an initial neck-and-neck fight as per the Election Commission of India (ECI) data.

The BJP was leading in 43 seats, the Congress in 42, the INLD in two seats and Independent candidates were ahead in three seats.

The prospective chief ministerial faces of both the parties -- Nayab Singh Saini of the BJP and Bhupinder Hooda of the Congress -- were leading with a comfortable margin on their respective seats.

Several exit polls have predicted a Congress victory in Haryana which recorded a voter turnout of 67.90 per cent. However, the BJP has claimed it will return to power for a third consecutive term in Haryana.

The BJP is aiming for the third consecutive term and the principal Opposition Congress is predicting a comeback in Haryana.

The counting of votes for the 90-member Assembly commenced at 93 counting centres in all 22 districts. Two counting centres each have been set up for the Badshahpur, Gurugram and Pataudi Assembly constituencies, while one counting centre each has been established for the remaining 87 Assembly constituencies, said Chief Electoral Officer Pankaj Agarwal.

To monitor the counting process, 90 counting observers also have been appointed by the Election Commission of India.

Agarwal said 30 companies of Central Armed Police Forces have been deployed at all counting centres that have been put under a three-tier security cover. Central security forces have been deployed in the innermost security cover. After that, state-armed police and district police personnel will be deployed in the outermost cover. Around 12,000 police personnel are on duty.

He said adequate checkpoints have been set up within 100 meters of each counting centre. CCTV cameras have been installed where the electronic voting machines (EVMs) are stored to closely monitor all activities.

Unauthorised individuals will be restricted from entering these areas. Additionally, CCTV cameras have been installed at the main entrance and throughout the entire premises of the counting centres to ensure comprehensive monitoring.

He said accurate information on each round of counting will be uploaded in a timely manner.

A total of 67.90 per cent of voting took place in the election on October 5. The highest -- 75.36 per cent -- was recorded in the Sirsa district and the lowest -- 56.49 per cent -- was recorded in the Faridabad district. Constituency-wise, the highest 80.61 per cent voting was recorded in Ellenabad and the lowest 48.27 per cent voting was in Badkhal.

A majority of exit polls predicted the Congress would wrest power from the BJP in Haryana after remaining in opposition for 10 years. The Congress, which carried a high-decibel campaign under former Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda, is predicted to win 49-55 seats in the 90-member House.

However, predicting a historic win for the third consecutive term, Chief Minister and BJP candidate from Ladwa Assembly seat, Nayab Singh Saini, said they do not need any alliance as they would form the government on their own.

Besides, two-time Chief Minister Bhupinder Hooda, the front-runner for the chief ministerial post, expressed confidence in the party forming a government in the state with a "thumping majority".

The Arvind Kejriwal-led Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Jannayak Janata Party (JJP) and the Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) are also in the fray. Many Independents, mostly BJP rebels, have made the contest multi-cornered on several seats.

The BJP's vote share in the October 2019 Assembly election was 36.49 per cent when the party could not cross the halfway mark in the 90-member Assembly and stitched a post-poll alliance with the JJP.
