President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi have extended their warm greetings to people in the country on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr.

New Delhi, Apr 11: President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi have extended their warm greetings to people in the country on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr.

In her message on X on Thursday, President Murmu said, "I wish all my countrymen, especially my Muslim brothers and sisters, a very happy Eid-ul-Fitr. This festival, celebrated after the holy month of Ramzan, spreads the spirit of unity, harmony and brotherhood. This festival of sharing happiness inspires forgiveness and charity. On this auspicious occasion, I wish that our country continues to progress on the path of progress and all the countrymen always live in peace."

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on Wednesday, extended his wishes for Eid-al-Fitr. In a post on X, PM Modi said, "Best wishes on Eid-ul-Fitr. May this occasion further spread the spirit of compassion, togetherness and peace. May everyone be happy and healthy. Eid Mubarak!"

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh also extended wishes and said, "Greetings on Eid-ul-Fitr. May this festival further strengthen the spirit of harmony and compassion in our society, Wishing everyone happiness, good health and prosperity. Eid Mubarak!"

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath also wished people on the occasion and said that the festival ushers in a message of happiness and reconciliation. "The festival of Eid-ul-Fitr brings the message of happiness and reconciliation. This festival of happiness not only strengthens social unity but also increases the feeling of mutual brotherhood. This festival gives the message of peace and harmony. On the festival of Eid, everyone should take a pledge to further strengthen harmony and social harmony," Adityanath said.

Ending the holy month of Ramzan and starting a new spiritual journey also marks the beginning of a new Islamic year. Eid-ul-Fitr marks the month-long Ramzan fasting and the beginning of Shawwal which is the tenth month per the Islamic calendar. Since the observance of the moon is essential for ending Ramzan month and celebrating Eid, it is celebrated in different parts on different days usually with a one-day difference.

Rs 75 Lakh Cash Seized From Two Passengers At Bhubaneswar Airport Ahead Of 2024 Elections

Bhubanewsar, Apr 30: Cash worth Rs 75 lakh in Rs 500 denomination notes, was seized from two passengers at the Biju Patnaik International Airport, Bhubaneswar in Odisha on Tuesday, ahead of the elections to Lok Sabha and State Assembly.

According to sources, one passenger arrived in the city from New Delhi and another from Chennai in Tamil Nadu. When their hand baggage were screened, CISF personnel found a huge amount of cash worth Rs 75 lakh.

CISF personnel then handed over the two persons and the cash to the Income Tax (IT) department for further probe.

The seizure of huge amounts of cash is a matter of concern as the Assembly and Lok Sabha elections are scheduled to be held simultaneously in Odisha in four phases from May 13 to June 1.

Indian stocks stay firm, defy FPI selling

New Delhi, Apr 30: Indian stock indices continued their gains from where they left the previous session, though marginally, supported by strong US markets coupled with improved investor sentiment with the relative easing of tensions in the Middle East.

At 9.30 am Tuesday, Sensex was at 74,736.87 points, up just 65.59 points or 0.088 per cent, while Nifty was at 22,678.15 points, up 34.75 points or 0.15 per cent. All Nifty sectoral indices were in the green, with Nifty auto the top mover.

Going back, snapping a four-day winning streak, Indian stock indices closed sharply lower last week, primarily due to risk aversion by investors amid weak global cues. Volatility also returned in Indian stock markets after a smooth rally at the start of April, primarily driven by Foreign Portfolio Investor selling activity.

Foreign portfolio investors (FPIs) have turned net sellers in Indian stocks lately, as the ongoing geopolitical crisis in the Middle East likely pushed investors to take money off their portfolios.

Foreign portfolio investors (FPIs), who continued to remain net buyers for the third month until a few days ago in April, have cumulatively sold stocks worth Rs 8,677 crore, National Securities Depository Limited (NSDL) showed

"This bull market is remaining resilient despite headwinds, and is slowly gathering momentum despite high valuations. A significant feature of the ongoing bull run is that the FIIs are consistently being outsmarted by the DIIs and retail investors," said VK Vijayakumar, Chief Investment Strategist, Geojit Financial Services.

"Every time the US bond yields go up, particularly when the 10-year yield rises above 4.5 per cent, the FIIs have been selling. But the DII plus retail buying has been completely overwhelming the FII selling, forcing the FIIs to buy the same stocks they sold earlier at higher prices later," Vijayakumar said.

This week will be dominated by the corporate earnings releases and the highly anticipated Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) meeting scheduled for April 30 to May 1.

The US Federal Reserve, in its March meeting, voted to leave the key interest rate unchanged at 5.25-5.50 per cent, keeping the policy rate unchanged for the fifth straight time on the trot to manage high inflation. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the interest rates were near zero.

Adhyayan Suman wishes Kangana Ranaut all the very best for her political career

New Delhi, Apr 30: Actor Adhyayan Suman has extended his best wishes to Kangana Ranaut, with whom he had a bitter breakup after being in a relationship for a few months in 2008-2009, for her venture into politics.

The actor said that he is "sure" that she will do "extremely well".

Talking about Kangana, who recently joined politics as a BJP candidate from Mandi for the Lok Sabha election, Adhyayan told IANS: "As far as Kangana Ranaut and her life are concerned and her political career is concerned, I think she has done really well in her career as an actor, and I wish her all the very best for her political career as well."

“I am very sure that she will do extremely well too. I wish her all the very best.”

Their paths initially crossed on the sets of 'Raaz: The Mystery Continues' directed by Mohit Suri. However, it was almost eight years later, in 2017, that Adhyayan publicly addressed their breakup, during which he accused Kangana of physical and mental abuse.

Moving forward, Adhyayan is preparing for the release of 'Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar', a series directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, revolving around the lives of tawaifs and the nawabs in Lahore.
