New Delhi/Chandigarh, March 31: After a 10-year-old girl reportedly died post eating her birthday cake ordered online in Patiala, netizens slammed online food delivery platforms for poor regulation over Cloud kitchens listed as food-delivering apps.

The police said on Saturday that a case under Sections 273 and 304-A of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) has been registered following a complaint lodged by the girl's family members, alleging that the girl died after consuming the birthday cake. Other family members also fell ill after consuming the cake.

As per the bill copy of the cake, which was ordered by the deceased girl’s mother Kajal, there is no shop named ‘Cake Kanha’ at the registered address in Patiala.

The police suspect that the bakery is a cloud kitchen. Additionally, another receipt invoice of Zomato shows billing done from Amritsar, not Patiala.

Despite reaching multiple times, Zomato did not comment.

Dr Nandita Iyer, a seasoned food and nutrition columnist, posted on X that Swiggy and Zomato should clearly highlight on each listing whether it is a cloud kitchen so people are aware of it before ordering.

“Such incidents are a harsh reminder that we have no idea what goes into the food we order from these completely unregulated places,” Iyer wrote on the social media platform.

Fitness professional Chirag Barjatya said that food safety is a joke.

“You will be surprised to know that people are running 20 different ‘restaurants’ in 1RK (room kitchen) as cloud kitchens listed over food-delivering apps. You have no idea how many mice and cockroaches were around the food you just ordered. And you have absolutely no idea if the cooked dal or rice you ordered has expired,” Barjatya posted on X.

Body Of A Youth Found In A Pool Of Blood In Balasore, Murder Suspected

Balasore, May 1: The body of a youth was found in a pool of blood on the roadside near Narada Chhaka in Chhanua village under Basta police station in Balasore district.

The deceased has been identified as Pruthviraj Patra (25), son of Manoj Kumar Patra of Chahapada village under Jagatpur police station in Cuttack district.

According to the information, the locals spotted the body lying on the roadside near a school in Chanua village. Following this, they immediately informed the police about the incident.

After receiving information about the incident, police reached the spot, seized the body, and sent it for an autopsy.

Preliminary investigation suggested that it was a case of murder as the youth had multiple severe injuries on his body.

The cops have initiated a probe into the matter.

More details are awaited.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi extends greetings on Gujarat's Statehood Day

Gandhinagar, May 1: Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended his greetings to the people of Gujarat on the occasion of Gujarat's Statehood Day.

Taking to his official X handle, the Prime Minister tweeted, "On this auspicious occasion of Gujarat's Statehood Day, we remember the rich cultural heritage, remarkable achievements, and vibrant spirit of the people of Gujarat."

He also wished the state prosperity and added, "May the state continue to flourish, prosper, and inspire generations with its ethos of entrepreneurship, resilience, and inclusive development. My best wishes to the people of Gujarat."

In another tweet, PM Modi said, "Greetings on Gujarat Sthapana Diwas. Gujarat has made a mark due to its all-round progress as well as its unique culture. I pray that the state continues to scale new heights of development in the times ahead."

Meanwhile, Home Minister Amit Shah also extended his wishes on Gujarat's Statehood Day and tweeted, "Best wishes to all Gujaratis on the occasion of Gujarat Foundation Day."

Lauding Gujarat, Shah said that the state is popular for its rich culture and is playing a significant role in the development of the country.

"Famous for its rich culture, generous hospitality, and natural beauty, Gujarat has made an unforgettable contribution to the unification of the country, right from the independence movement. Today, Gujarat is making an important contribution to the development of the country with its hard work, dedication, and cooperation. On the foundation day, I wish the best progress and all-round development to the sisters and brothers of Gujarat," he tweeted.

Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya who is contesting from Porbandar in the Lok Sabha elections also wished the people of the state on the occasion.

Gujarat Foundation Day or Gujarat Sthapana Divas is celebrated every year on May 1. Two states, Maharashtra and Gujarat, were created after the partition of Bombay based on language in 1960.

IPL 2024: MI skipper Hardik Pandya fined for maintaining slow over-rate against LSG

Lucknow, May 1: Mumbai Indians (MI) skipper Hardik Pandya was fined for maintaining a slow over-rate during his side's Indian Premier League (IPL) match against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at the Ekana Cricket Stadium on Tuesday.

In the game, the Mumbai-based franchise conceded a four-wicket defeat against Lucknow. MI are in the ninth spot with three wins, seven losses and six points.

"Hardik Pandya, Captain, Mumbai Indians has been fined after his team maintained a slow over-rate during Match 48 of the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 against Lucknow Super Giants at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium, Lucknow on April 30, 2024," IPL stated in a statement.

It added that Hardik was fined Rs 24 lakhs since it was MI's second offence of maintaining a slow over-rate in the ongoing season. Meanwhile, the rest of the cricketers from the MI playing eleven were fined Rs 6 lakhs or 25 per cent of match fees.

"As it was his team's second offence of the season under the IPL's Code of Conduct relating to minimum over-rate offences, Pandya was fined INR 24 Lac. The rest of the members of the Playing XI, including the Impact Player, were each individually fined either INR 6 Lac or 25 per cent of their respective match fees, whichever is lesser," it added.

Summarizing the game, LSG won the toss and opted to field first. Mumbai Indians could not get going from the start, losing four wickets for 27 runs within the powerplay itself. Nehal Wadhera (46), Ishan Kishan (32) and Tim David (35*) tried their best but could take their side to just 144/7 in their 20 overs.

Mohsin Khan (2/36) was the pick of the bowlers for LSG, while Marcus Stoinis, Mayank Yadav, Naveen ul Haq and Stoinis got a wicket each.

In the run-chase of 145 runs, LSG also faced a hard challenge from MI bowlers and lost wickets at regular intervals. Stoinis' knock of 62 in 45 balls, with seven fours and two sixes proved to be just enough to take LSG to a four-wicket win with four balls and four wickets left.
