Panna (Madhya Pradesh), April 3: Madhya Pradesh Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) chief VD Sharma filed his nomination papers from Khajuraho parliamentary seat in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections at Panna collector office on Wednesday.

Union Minister Smriti Irani, state cabinet minister Prahlad Singh Patel, BJP MLAs Brijendra Pratap Singh and Sanjay Pathak were present on the occasion.

Minister Irani told ANI, "Today, I got the opportunity to participate in the nomination of Madhya Pradesh BJP chief VD Sharma. Congress has accepted its defeat even before voting in this Lok Sabha seat. This is the reason Congress is not contesting from this seat."

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Mohan Yadav also targeted the Congress party saying as soon as the BJP had announced its candidate from Khajuraho, Congress people left the field.

"I am happy that as soon as BJP announced its candidate from Khajuraho, Congress people left the field and were not able to find a candidate. Seeing its defeat, Congress handed over this seat to the Samajwadi party (SP). Even the SP is also not able to decide its candidate from here. SP announced its one candidate here and then again changed it," CM said.

"I think the hard work of our BJP chief and the love of the people is telling that BJP's victory is certain here," he added.

Notably, Khajuraho is Madhya Pradesh's only constituency assigned to Samajwadi Party, a member of the INDIA bloc, as part of a seat-sharing deal with the Congress.

SP initially fielded Manoj Yadav for the Khajuraho Lok Sabha constituency and later replaced its candidate as Meera Deepak.

Khajuraho will go to poll in the second phase on April 26 with six other parliamentary seats in the state. The nomination for the second phase was started on March 28 and April 4 would be the last date to file papers. Besides, the last date for withdrawal of candidature for the second phase of polls will be April 8.

Lok Sabha elections in Madhya Pradesh are scheduled to be held in the first four phases of the total seven phases dated April 19, April 26, May 7, and May 13.

The votes will be counted on June 4.

Girl's Body Recovered From Bathroom In Kandhamal Village

Baliguda, Oct 18: In a terrifying incident, the body of a grownup girl was found under mysterious conditions in her bathroom at Panasapadi village under the Baliguda police station limits in Kandhmal district on Friday morning.

The deceased was identified as 24-year-old Ipsita Patnaik, daughter of Ashok Patnaik.

According to reports, Ipsita had been living with her family in a rented house in Panasapadi for months. Her body was found lying in the bathroom this morning.

The matter came to the fore after family members informed the police after finding the body.

On being informed, police reached the spot, seized the body and sent it to hospital for post-mortem. The Baliguda police have registered a case and are investigating the matter.

Bengaluru, Oct 18: New Zealand pacer William O'Rourke feels that he was fortunate to take Virat Kohli's dismissal on the ball which was going down the leg in the first Test against India on Thursday.

Kohli departed on a nine-ball duck as he edged the ball which was taken by Glenn Phillips at the leg gully on the second day in Bengaluru. India had an abysmal outing in the first innings under overcast conditions as they were bowled out for just 46 runs, their lowest-ever Test score at home and their third-lowest in history.

"I think just with my angle back in, having that leg gully in place was meant to bring him into play. It was obviously an attacking option for us. We were fortunate to get the wicket. I don’t think that was exactly the delivery I intended, but it worked and I got his wicket, so I’m happy about it," O'Rourke told JioCinema.

The weather conditions and moisture on the pitch supported Kiwi seamers and O'Rourke said he felt like playing at home. "Very similar to the conditions back home. I think we weren't expecting too much assistance in the morning. We were probably going to bat as well if we won the toss. So, it was nice to see the ball nipping around, and I could just run in and do my thing," the pacer said.

"I think we were excellent in the field today. A few diving chances and I think that's what we pride ourselves on. We probably haven't been as good as we wanted to be in the last few Tests. So, coming out here and putting on a show like that was really special," he added.

Playing for the first time in India, O'Rourke returned with the figures of 4-22 in his 12 overs and credited the Sri Lanka series for getting a sense of the subcontinental conditions.

"It’s my first time playing in the subcontinent so it’s obviously a little bit different from back home, but playing those first two Tests in Sri Lanka really helped prepare me to come out here and just focus on doing my own thing," he said.

After dismissing India for a dismal total, the visitors ended day two on 180 for 3, leading by 134 runs. Devon Conway was the standout for the visitors, scoring 91 runs, while Will Young contributed 33. Ravichandran Ashwin, Kuldeep Yadav, and Ravindra Jadeja bagged one scalp each but India face an uphill task to recover from their nightmare start in the series opener.
