Defence Minister Rajnath Singh announced on Friday that India's defence manufacturing sector has witnessed an increase of 16.8 per cent in the fiscal year 2023-24. This significant increase marks the highest-ever growth in the country's defence production value.

New Delhi, July 5: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh announced on Friday that India's defence manufacturing sector has witnessed an increase of 16.8 per cent in the fiscal year 2023-24. This significant increase marks the highest-ever growth in the country's defence production value.

Singh highlighted that the total value of defence production reached Rs 1,26,887 crore this year, up from the previous year's figures.

"The Make in India programme is crossing new milestones, year after year, under the leadership of PM Shri@narendramodi. India has registered the highest ever growth in the value of defence production in 2023-24. The value of production has reached to Rs. 1,26,887 crore in 2023-24 which is 16.8% higher than the value of production of previous financial year," the defence minister said in a post on X.

The Make in India programme is crossing new milestones, year after year, under the leadership of PM Shri @narendramodi.

Singh also congratulated Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) and the private sector for contributing to this milestone and reaffirmed the government's commitment to developing India as a leading global defence manufacturing hub under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership.

"Many congratulations to our industry including DPSUs, other PSUs manufacturing defence items and the Private industry. The Government is committed to create more conducive regime for developing India as leading Global Defence Manufacturing Hub," the minister added.

The central government has set a target of achieving indigenous defence manufacturing worth Rs 1,75,000 crore, including defence exports of Rs 35,000 crore, by the fiscal year 2024-25.

Notably, many global companies have either shared or shown intent to share critical defence and aerospace knowledge with India. Several policy reforms have been implemented to achieve the objective of ease of doing business, including the integration of micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) and startups into the supply chain.

India's defence exports have reached a record of Rs 21,083 crore (approximately USD 2.63 billion) in FY 2023-24, reflecting a 32.5 per cent growth from the previous fiscal year, when the figure was Rs 15,920 crore.

These recent figures indicate that defence exports have grown 31 times over the last decade compared to 2013-14.

Following the announcement of these production numbers, shares of Hindustan Aeronautics Limited surged by more than 1.5 per cent to Rs 5,601 on Friday. Indian defence PSUs have witnessed significant returns on equities in the past few years, benefiting from new orders.

Thwarted Ukrainian Attempt To Hijack Tu-22m3 Strategic Bomber: Russia

Moscow, July 8: Russia stopped an attempt by the Ukrainian special services to organise a hijack of a Russian Tu-22M3 strategic bomber abroad, local media reported on Monday, citing Federal Security Service (FSB).

TASS news agency quoted an FSB statement as saying that the agency also found the involvement of NATO special services in preparing and implementing the operation.

The Ukrainian intelligence planned to recruit a Russian military pilot for a monetary reward and the promise of Italian citizenship to persuade him to fly and land the missile carrier in Ukraine, reports Xinhua news agency, citing the FSB statement.

During the operation, the Russian counterintelligence also received information that helped to deliver a fire strike at a Ukrainian air base, it said.

The Tu-22M3 is a long-range supersonic missile carrier bomber with variable-sweep wings designed to strike sea and land targets with guided missiles and bombs. It can carry both nuclear and conventional bombs and missiles. (IANS)

Ali’s Guddu Bhaiya, Richa’s Bholi Punjaban Have A Hilarious Crossover For Time Pass

Mumbai, July 8: Star couple and soon-to-be parents Richa Chadha and Ali Fazal had a fun Sunday, as they shared a video of a crossover between their popular characters Bholi Punjaban from the 'Fukrey' film franchise and Guddu Pandit from the 'Mirzapur' series.

Richa and Ali Monday posted the reel on their respective Instagram handles. The video starts with Ali as Guddu working out and dancing. Richa’s Bholi enters in the same style, flaunting her baby bump in a T-shirt that says “Bholi bhaali.”

The two characters soon seem to fall in love, with boiled eggs playing cupid. The camera then pans to an empty baby milk bottle. They captioned the humorous clip: “Guddu X Bholi... Sunday done right.”

Richa, with a laugh, told IANS that they were just having fun Sunday. “We were doing time pass on a Sunday, and since both characters are from the same universe, we thought it’d be a fun thing to do!” Richa said.

Praising her husband’s character, Guddu Pandit, she added: “I loved Guddu in the show. He's excellent! We thought a mashup would be interesting. And it was something that just fit, right!”

Richa is all set to welcome her first child. In February, the two stars announced that they are expecting their first bundle of joy.

Their Instagram announcement read: “1+1=3” and was captioned: “A tiny heartbeat is the loudest sound in our world.”

Richa and Ali first met on the sets of 'Fukrey' in 2013 and decided to get married in 2020 during the pandemic. However, they celebrated their union with everyone in 2022.

President's Visit To Udayagiri Caves: Droupadi Murmu Interacts With Students, Walks Down Memory Lane

Bhubaneswar, July 8: President Droupadi Murmu visited historic Udayagiri Caves Monday after returning from Puri.

Later, President Murmu interacted with the students of B.K. College of Arts and Crafts, and the Utkal University of Culture. She recalled her student days in Bhubaneswar and shared her experience while interacting with the students.

"This area (the surrounding area of Udayagiri) was surrounded by dense forests. I was unable to climb to the top of the caves. Now infrastructures are gradually replacing the forest. Most of the forests are out of the map," she said showing concern, adding: "We need to preserve these things to keep the nature safe."

President Murmu also recalled the time when saints used to live there. "I, along with my friends, used to interact with the saints. Now, it looks like a deserted place. The saints don't like to stay here anymore," she stated.

The President also shared her thoughts on the beauty of arts at Udayagiri Caves. "The rock inscriptions and the caves in Udayagiri are the symbols of the uniqueness of Odia arts. The map of the cave exhibits the people's rich skills in arts.We should preserve all these arts," Murmu asserted.

The President said to the students that she enjoyed the interaction. "I was a teacher before. So I am enjoying the conversations with all of you. Next time, I will make a visit to your colleges," Murmu signed off.

The President also received gifts from the students. After the interaction, she headed back to Raj Bhavan.

Earlier in the morning, President Murmu, who is currently on a four-day visit to Odisha, took a stroll at the Blue Flag Beach in Puri.

President Murmu arrived in Puri Sunday on the occasion of Rath Yatra and took the blessings of the Holy Trinity -- Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra and Devi Subhadra.

Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, Deputy CMs -- Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo and Pravati Parida -- as well as Odisha Cabinet Ministers, MPs and MLAs were also in attendance as they took the blessings of the deities. Former CM and LoP Naveen Patnaik also graced the occasion.
